Like I posted in another thread, this outage could have been prevented if they knew what they were doing. This is just showing how professional they are.

Anyway, what they could have done is have the Fullerene bboard code and the site on the new server before the transition even begins. Then, about a week before the transition, they set the DNS expiry to some horribly low number. Close both boards. Switch the DNS. Mail the backup tape/HD with the DB same day UPS and restore the DB at the new site. Bring the board back up.
Main site downtime: none (if all went well)
Bboard downtime: 6 hours, more or less.
