I can't either! I tried to, it sounds the same as spoon, or "spponme" as spoon was first typed by Cece . . . before she proof-read. :)

There are many sounds that are actually the same, just that one is voiced and the other isn't.  Examples:

Voiced ... Not Voiced
    B ............. P
    D ............. T
    V ............. F
    G ............. K
    J ............. Ch
    Z ............. S

When whispering, they'll both sound identical since you don't use your voice to whisper.

If "spoon" was spelled "sboon,"  would "PiBby" be spelled "BiPpy?"    :P

sboon or spoon?

If it were spelled that way, then a lot of dictionaries would be incorrect.

Or maybe if it was spelt that way, then the dictionaries would reflect this, seeing as the purpose of a dictionary is to show how a word is spelt ;o)

I didn't mean to imply the dictionaries would be wrong. It was humor.

However, a dictionary's primary purpose is to offer a definition; secondary comes the spelling.

lol .. easy there .. no need to take it all serious =P

Anyway .. you did imply that because it's exactly what you said .. "a lot of dictionaries would be incorrect"

But yes.. don't worry.. I know humour when I see it ;o)

The third purpose of the dictionary is to throw it at people who take things too seriously =P
