yeah, animation shop has some efects that turn out to make  huge files!
But one solution to make the file smaller would be to make the page flip in fewer frames, did u try that?

the blinkkie font?
ohh it`s one of the bitmap/pixel fonts
u can find it at dafont.com

It was 04_21b I think, well there are a million of those 09_??b fonts lol

I use psp8, ps6 ( ocasionally) and animation shop 3. But I usually make every single frame in psp8 first then I just animate the gif ;)
