Ooh, interesting thread.

I knew a handful of my classmates who are open about them not being virgins. And I'm a freshman at a catholic school. Pretty sad. I have never had sex as of now, but the more I think about it, the more I don't like the idea of waiting until marriage. The whole sex is only for marriage thing is BS anyway. If anyone's actually read the Bible, there's plenty of pre-marital sex in that book. In fact, the Old Testament is one of the most disturbing books ever. Thank you, Scriptures class.

If the amount of alcohol consumed, over the last 7 St. Valentine's Day dinners
at the restaurants I've worked in is any indication, it certainly seems to be so.

Oh Joey, that is quite the horrible argument...

but could have some truth to it, sadly.

I apparently voted in this poll but I have not a clue when I did so....haha

I'm not saying I would have pre-marital sex because it's in the Bible, I meant to say that people saying that they're waiting for religious reasons is BS. The church says that sex should only be for procreation, which is crazy (in my opinion, at least). I plan on waiting til love, whether that be in marriage or not.

The Roman Catholic Church teaches that based on a faulty understanding of Genesis 38:1-10. The Church Universal, however, teaches no such thing. In fact, I'd wager that the majority of the Church Universal, outside of the Roman Catholics, understands that the reason why Onan was struck down by God was because what he did was pretty much defrauding his brother and his line, under the law of the time.

Furthermore, if you read between the lines when Paul talks about why some people should be married in I Corinthians 7:1-5, marriage serves, among other things, as a permissible outlet for sexual perversion so God's people don't fall into sin. That pretty much tells me that monogamous kink is not only allowed, but perhaps even encouraged within the bonds of marriage.

Why are religious reasons BS? I can't even count how many times Paul implores us to "flee from sexual immorality." His definition of immorality most certainly includes fornication (sex outside of marriage) based on the social mores of the the time and the laws put forth in the Pentateuch.

I'm only familia with the Roman Catholic stances, really... seeing as that is what I am.
Reguarding your other point, I don't think God cares whether or not we have pre-marital sex or not. If it's illegally or with prostitutes, that probably doesn't look good on the resume, but I think he's going to focus more on the big picture, you know, accepting him into your heart throughout your whole life. Or at least that's how I picture my God to be like.

Yes, I believe Onan died because of what he did to his late brother, and denying him the continuance of his line, which was his brotherly duty.  I didn't see it anywhere in the Five Books where God commanded people not to masturbate.  And whether you have premarital or extramarital sex or not, if you are convicted of sin, it's your duty to confess it to God (and you can use the direct line) and ask forgiveness.  Though it's outright abuse of God's grace to do whatever you want to do just to ask for forgiveness in the end, how much better it is to ask for that forgiveness than not to and burn for it!
