but he turns out to be totally not worth it ("he's my first mistake") and basically ditches her. which explains the line we all fell in love and we all got hurt. vanessa gets hurt by the guy and the friends all get hurt because he doesn't want them. so then towards the end: maybe you were all faster than me/you give each other up so easily, this guy basically tore them all apart and now feel so far from where i've been she's just thinking about how they used to be so close and now they've totally split apart and then the rest is self-explanatory.

None of the stations will play V's song. I'm dying to hear it!! Anyone else having this problem?

That makes LOADS of sense but somehow it doesn't quite sit with me. I just think of it as a song about a summer where her and her girlfriends (either ballet school or 'camp') all fall in love, with different boys, and then they all individually get their hearts broken. She lost her virginity later than her friends, hence "maybe you were all faster than me" and how they gave themselves too soon to guys that they regret. Also, how would "you were all faster than me" sit with the fact that the guy chose Vanessa over all of them in your interpretation? I don't know- your explanation does make sense though- we'll have to ask her about it, its just so far she's never said the song is about an awful friendship break up or anything- just that it was a period of change in her life, hence the falling in love, losing her virginity, making a mistake etc. To me its more a story of self discovery than about a friendship break up over a guy.

Hmmm i just so get the feeling they're all girls, because the song is kind of about discovering boys- if you see what i mean. The 'pretty eyed boys girls die to trust' kind of implies the boys aren't part of her close group of 'five'.

faster to abandon each other. "you give each other up so easily" comes right after. vanessa wants to hang onto the good times they had together but the rest of them have split up and she's forced to let go as the sun fades on white houses.

see to me the song speaks about so much more than just losing her virginity. the last part of the song to me seems like she's saying goodbye to her life as a teenager and moving on. Though i do agree with amber about the first part of the song being about a guy and such

The Jenny in the song is probably about her best friend. Remember reading in the BNN dedication part of the cd booklet, it gave a shout out to "Jennifer" saying something like, 'what in the world would i do without you?'
