oh and, is it just me, or in She Floats with the choir... is there a child screaming bloody murder over top of them? freaky...

I think that part is really cool. It works well in the song.

I think that's freaky  :?  It scares me

Here's my question about Harmonium... What the HELL is going on in Winter?
I get the first part, about her dad. But the unicorns and vampires... I have no freaking clue.

I thought it was about rape, but maybe that's because there was an SVU rerun on at the time.  It's a stretch, but it could make sense.  It's one of those things only Vanessa can really tell us.

rape? oh never though bout that 8O     well, someday vanessa wil explain it :?

yeah, I thought of it this way:
the "daddy" she talks about is a metaphor for someone she looked up to, maybe a father figure to her, someone she needed approval from, kind of like the "papa" in Papa.  Also she gave him pleasure and now he gives her fear, makes sense.  As for Unicorns and Vampires, unicorns being white and pure symbolize innocence and the vampires being predators once her innocence was taken turning white to red.  "We turn to look and burn our eyes" means the taboo subject of rape and sex that still exists in American culture, and the stigma victims of rape feel.

*shrug*

that's kinda what i was thinking about the vampires and unicorns. but did vanessa's dad do anything like that to her? i don't really know a lot about her parents and stuff so did her dad abuse her or something? is that what papa is about too?

VC said last year when she perfomed PAPA in concert that the song is NOT about her dad and that she loves her dad. I think this has been addressed before..

For me it's a glance
And a smile on your face
A touch of your hands
An honest embrace - VC, Home

Um...this is called, Papa and It's not about my dad, cause I really like my dad. It's about a different kinda daddy.

Yah, she usually says that little bit about it not being about her daddy at most, if not all of the shows (or at least all the ones I've been to!)

Winter

I think Winter is about the recording of this album...

"He sits behind a desk of mahogany
He whispers dreams into my ear
And though I've giving him his empire
He delivers me my fear"

...Vanessa made her boss (or something of that nature) rich but he can still destroy her career. He can tell her how to dress, what to play.

"The unicorns are riding high"

...expectations and critics are expecting this album to be amazing.

"The vampires are growing tired
The coats of white all turn to red
My heart burns with desire
I carry on, I carry on"

...She is tired of making the album, she wants it to be released already.

"I hold my head and know the streets are mine tonight"

...She has won against her manager and can do what she wants freely.

Just my stupid 2 cents. Pretty much we can only guess what it is about unless their are acknowledgements in the cd booklet or Vanessa says what it is about.

That's exactly what I thought! I was listening to the song last night and all this crossed my mind but then thought everyone would find it too far fetched. I'm glad I'm not the only one who interpreted it that way.

Except I think when she says "The unicorns are riding high" she's talking about her hopes for the record being high and when she talks about "vampires" she means the record label people growing tired of the album not progressing or something along those lines.

My big doubt now is whether it is about this album or about the never relased Rinse... it would be logical to think she's talking about Harmonium, but when she says "I carry on" it may be on the sense that, after Rinse not being released, she carries on with her music, she keeps on fighting.

Too far fetched?  That sounds like a pretty good interpretation to me... I never thought of that myself, but then again I am horrible at interpretations.

Don't forget, either, that Vanessa is the unicorn... Or at least it's always been her little mascot. So she is then indeed riding high.
