I think Winter is about the recording of this album...
"He sits behind a desk of mahogany
He whispers dreams into my ear
And though I've giving him his empire
He delivers me my fear"
...Vanessa made her boss (or something of that nature) rich but he can still destroy her career. He can tell her how to dress, what to play.
"The unicorns are riding high"
...expectations and critics are expecting this album to be amazing.
"The vampires are growing tired
The coats of white all turn to red
My heart burns with desire
I carry on, I carry on"
...She is tired of making the album, she wants it to be released already.
"I hold my head and know the streets are mine tonight"
...She has won against her manager and can do what she wants freely.
Just my stupid 2 cents. Pretty much we can only guess what it is about unless their are acknowledgements in the cd booklet or Vanessa says what it is about.
That's exactly what I thought! I was listening to the song last night and all this crossed my mind but then thought everyone would find it too far fetched. I'm glad I'm not the only one who interpreted it that way.
Except I think when she says "The unicorns are riding high" she's talking about her hopes for the record being high and when she talks about "vampires" she means the record label people growing tired of the album not progressing or something along those lines.
My big doubt now is whether it is about
this album or about the never relased Rinse... it would be logical to think she's talking about Harmonium, but when she says "I carry on" it may be on the sense that, after Rinse not being released, she carries on with her music, she keeps on fighting.
