that only means it may be romanized into french...like quebec...its some iroquois word meaning village...that the french people first put in the roman alphabet..I think toque is probably the same..its weird though because the "to" part is pronounced "too" but in french toque would be like toke (hehe). toboggan definitely isn't french methinks lol.

toke? I dont have an accent (I think...thats more in the east where they're all oot and aboot) and I don think I come close to pronouncing it like that. but maybe the people who came up with it had an accent and so its been passed on that way! yes! mystery solved!

Actually, it's tuque.  Toque is cool, too, but it's pronounced differently and usually refers to a slightly different hat.  Go to tuque and toque in the M-W dictionary for more information.
