ACTUALLY, When used in context with Holly's post, the correct phrase is "I have never drank".  If she were to say "I had never drank" It would mean she at one point hadnt, but now she has.


Well, ACTUALLY ACTUALLY, the past participle of drink is drunk, so it should really be "I have never drunk."

hmm i'm not sure. she had never had that much to drink before, but now she has. so wouldn't "I had never drank that much until now" still be as correct as saying "I have never drank that much until now"? I can see where Zuriel is coming from, he's right about drunk. i think we use drank just because it sounds better, though not grammtically correct. but the use of Have and Had can be hazy.

either way, it's still better than saying drinkin. i don't think drinkin is even a word. :-P (not to poke fun at Holly, it would drive me crazy if anyone said it)

hahaha you didn't go on dictionary.com in a paranoid frenzy like i did :-P there are actually distinct differences between Had and Have, but only in specific cases. Mostly they're interchangable.

Yeah i thought in holly's statement they werent interchangeable.  I believe with had you need an effect afterwards.  With have you dont need an effect.  Have is a present statement, Had is a past statement. etc etc

What do we have here?

I drink.  I drank.  I have drunk.

Had is used over have when speaking of something that happned BEFORE something that happened in the past.  Don't have to be an "effect" just something happening afterwards; it can be unrelated.

I had drunk only one beer when my parents came home.

Did having a drink make my parents come home?



If you look at the same words long enough they don't look like words.   8O

Actually it would be untrue to say that is the most I've ever had to drink.  I've sat up all night drinking gin and tonics(the bars and clubs are open all night here.)

I should just stay away from drinking games having to do with cards.  I'd be drinking even when I lose.  Hell, just drink on every hand.

Entertaining thing last night, I personally don't drink, but I was in my friend Masha's room last night in the racks (barracks), her and I were just killing time talking and stuff, and she said "Here, drink this" kind of jokingly, handing me a can of Budweiser, and just for the reaction I opened it and took a drink, only to notice it tasted like crap, so I spit it out all over the girls hallway in the barracks (figured she would've killed me had I spit it all over her bed), yeah, no more alcohol for Mr. Steavis
