Honestly, that is so beautiful. Wow. I love it! I wish I could play that. What kind of keyboard do you have?

My phantom phase is just starting because yesterday I saw it for the first time in NYC on broadway. It was soooo amazing!

Yep, Phantom live is amaaaazing. But I also liked the movie...:)

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I hope to soon.

I've been looking into getting a Yamaha. They seem really cool. The one I currently have is sucky beyond suckyness. :(

Yeah, the movie is beautiful. The phantom isn't the best singer, but the Christine in the movie sings very very well.

And yeah, I think Yamaha has the best selection of digital pianos that play like real pianos. No springy crappy keys and no cheesy synth sound. Plus you can record and overdub on it; comes with MIDI and line in/out jacks. plus all of the cool voices etc. Very handy.

I took a Lyric writing for Musicals class at my college last semester and my professor was a young guy straight out of NYU grad school who majored in Musical Theater and he claimed to have met tons of big names like Steven Sondheim (just one I remember).... Anyway he said that EVERYONE in the business hates Andrew Lloyd Webber and thinks he "sucks ass" and "rips himself off". Lol. (He wasn't too polite about his hate for the guy)

Personally I think the repetition in his musicals serves to tie things together and it doesn't bother me at all. Maybe Jesus Christ Superstar or whatever it was sucked, but POTO is so pretty!! :) Cats is fun to watch IMO too........

Did you know "Memory" from Cats was the last song written right before the musical went up, as a sort of way to draw a plot into the story and the lyrics were written by the producer or something and they were basically 20 lines of scribbled out poetry set to music? Hahah.... I guess that's how you write a classic ;) (I never did like that song though)


Oh and Amanda, you might find this cool. In our class we got to write lyrics and NYC composers trying to break into Broadway that were friends of our professor set them to music and we had a Cabaret :) My composer was named Sarah C. Butts, but I can't remember the other guys names.... It was fun :)

I had a keyboard once but I sold it to help pay for my wedding.
I didn't mind though cause I hate the keyboard.
There is nothing like playing a piano...

Yeah, I've heard about the whole "Webber writes the same stuff for every musical blah blah blah" but I tell ya there is no one in theater that writes such memorable music. Some of his songs just make me want to cry. ah, so good. His music is complex yet simple, beautiful but sad.. I can't say enough about the songs he's written and the way he writes.. like no one else.

Yeah same with me. I think what makes his music so cool is that every song can link it's self together. I think it makes the transitions inbetween the songs very smooth. I saw Jesus Christ SP for the first time this year and I actually enjoyed it. I mean, you have to giver Webber a break since he wrote it when he was 17 for a music class.  It wasn't even meant to be for the stage, just as a CD. But what made it so great was that Webber was the first to incorporate rock as musical (broadwayish sounding) music. My parents for example loved it when they were in high school because the musicians that recorded the CD were faomous rock artists of that era.[/quote]

Ha! OMG, I actually know who Sarah C. Butts is. She writes a lot of quartets for trombone (not that I play trombone, but some of my friends who do usually play her music). That's pretty cool. I can't write a good set of lyrics to save my life...

Wow, I didn't think you would know who she is!! I guess it's the same Sarah C. Butts, haha, I mean how common could that name be. But she's still pretty young and I know she plays piano (but she didn't mention anything about Trombone). There was one song I heard that she wrote the music to and my prof wrote the lyrics and it was so pretty :)

Yep. Well I don't know if she just writes for trombone.. probably not, but I recognize her name from the music I've seen.

Aw thanx. I'm sure you're a lot better than I am...

V's stuff I wouldn't consider hard. A year ago her songs were hard to me, but now I don't find them difficult...
