(abridged review)
Renda and I headed to the End Session with COLD.
We had to walk about 8 blocks to get to the studio where it was being held. But due to my poor map skills we ended up taking a detour and when we got to the studio, 2 people got to the door 5 seconds before us. So we were 3rd & 4th in line. So this is about 1:15pm, the End Session was slated to start at 2:15pm. Hour early, just about right. 2:15 rolls around, no sign of the band, 3:15 rolls around, no sign of the band. 4:15 a SUV pulls up and Scooter & Terry get out. 3 hours we waited outside in the sun, dehydrated, hungry and loopy as all hell!
So the band is setting up, Terry comes outside again for a smoke and is talking to the first girl in line, she was a total Cold fan so that was cool for her. He finished his cigarette and went back inside, and finally they let us into the studio. Since we were nearly first we got right up at the front and grabbed PILLOWS! I was basically laying down for the whole thing, plus peeps behind me could see too then. All the lights were off and lots of candles lit, it was beautiful.
Cold was late arriving because they had just come from a 30hr bus ride from Kansas to Seattle, with little sleep. Scooter wasnt feeling 100%, but his performance was amazing!!! They did an acoustic set with "Gone Away", "Bleed" which half way through Scooter wasnt diggin the way it was going so he started it over. Thats my favorite Cold song too so I was lovin it... TWICE! Then they played "No One", and "Suffocate" which during the chorus he started to sing the original lyrics he had written for the song on accident. lol so he started over that one too. Then by obligation basically they played "Stupid Girl". lol That was gonna be the end of the set, Terry was done but Scooter wanted to do one more song, so he grabbed the guitar and performed a rare bonus song called "Check Please".
After that we all head out and pass by the table where they sign stuff. I got them to sign a promo 8x10. Told Terry he did a great job when he was playing with Staind back in 2001. And I like thanked Scooter and shook his hand.
For Kevin / Scooter / TerrySo then Renda and I head on back to Bumbershoot. I get to where we were to meet up. The gate to Memorial Stadium was open and people were flowing by the hundreds, John & Phil had already gone through. So we go in, use a payphone and get a hold of John. I go to score seats in the grandstand to find John, Phil, Lisa, & Biggs all there too. Renda makes her way back and we hang out for a while waiting for the show to start. Phil & Renda being totally insane head down to the field to be closer and get killed by the moshpit. smooth move.
Cold comes out. Acoustically they were AMAZING but I've seen some of their live rock performances and usually they are not that great... they blew me away! EXCELLENT SET! You would never know they were hella tired and damn near dead. They hit it right on! I was totally impressed and am an even bigger fan now without a doubt after a perfect acoustic show and a perfect rock show.
(then Evanescence performed)
