ALL IS WELL (lyrics and audio inside)
« on: February 18, 2006, 02:19:39 am »
Start thanking me   because here are the lyrics and audio to Vanessa's brand new song, "All is Well" that she premiered last night at The Palms in Melbourne.

Thanks to Sammy (uncertainterms) for helping me with this! :)

Go here http://forums.nessaholics.com/viewtopic.php?t=1123&start=15 for the setlist... I have audio of the rest of the show, except for Ordinary Day.  If anyone wants to hear the other songs, let me know and I'll post them tomorrow.

I typed out the talking bit at the start, and with the lyrics, the "......"'s is obviously where I couldn't figure it out.
Enjoy!!

(by the way, the quality isn't fantastic, probably because I was using my mp3 from inside my bag coz I didn't want to get caught.)

...................

"I just realised as I introduced that segment of the show as all these new songs that most of you don’t know any of these other songs and I really appreciate you coming. I think a lot of people only know one song of mine, or they know my first record. I’m quite impressed because a lot of you kind of knew some of the songs from my second record and um, I just totally contradicted myself. Anyway, for the people who know the songs, thankyou, and I promise the next record you’ll know, and I’ll be back and when I start singing you’ll hear me.

So this is actually just a total premiere, I’ve never played this in any country, in any place, except the studio and the chances of me just totally fucking up are just so high, that’s just the theme for the evening, so I just hope you’ll be forgiving.  But it actually might be one of my favourite songs on the record and it’s a bit dark and weird but I had this realisation recently in my life that I think I find comfort in feeling down, which is always a bad sign, but there’s something comforting about it and for the past year or so, you know, everything’s being going so well and I’ve been so happy and I’ve been so confused and I, and I kinda got a little bored I guess.
Um I use the metaphor in the first line of the song is 'I always sleep so much better when it’s raining' and I think a lot of people feel that way but I thought it was really a metaphor for feeling comfy in the dark, grey moments. And this song is called "All is Well", and god help me."

.........................
...VC goes to play the song then messes up straight away

LYRICS

ALL IS WELL

I always sleep so much better when it’s raining
There’s something bout the rhythm as the water hits the pane
I could stay in bed all god damn day and sweetly waste away
Cos I’m blind to all the good you see and prefer a fine tragedy

When all is well I get nervous, something’s missing
If only you could tell me it’s okay and me listen, cos it already is

Ooh

….. and summer fades
I miss….
… colour, autumn days appear in my view
cos this …. the splendor that’s been staring me in my face
and the spectrum of colours that just turns into blue

When all is well I get nervous, something’s missing
If only you could tell me it’s okay and me listen cos it already is

and it’s all true and good and….
cos you see through the tears
and they come every night
when reason’s meaning why

ah

When all is well I get nervous, something’s missing
If only you could tell me it’s okay, and me listen cos it already,
All is well I know when I see you
you don’t need to tell me it’s okay
cos I believe that it already is
already is
already is

I always sleep so much better when it’s raining.

ahh, I love it! This gets me so excited for the next album. She was so funny talking in the beginning, too.
The piano is awesome, her voice sounds awesome, and I'm surprised to hear 'god damn', but the song rocks!

Thank you for sharing the lyrics Jessica; feel free to add the 'VC Down Under'
SIG here as your own; at least until some souvenir-type ones are created

Peace

NEW COMPLETE LYRICS

I always sleep so much better when it’s raining
There’s something 'bout the rhythm as the water hits the pane
I could stay in bed all God damn day, and sweetly waste away
'Cause I’m blind to all the good you see, and prefer a fine tragedy

When all is well I get nervous, something’s missing
If only you could tell me it’s okay, and me listen, 'cause it already is
Oh

The air grows thin as summer fades
I miss, I change
The old crisp and color autumn days appear in my view
'cause this blue, you caught the splendor that’s been staring me in my face
and the spectrum of the colors just change into blue

When all is well I get nervous, something’s missing
If only you could tell me it’s okay, and me listen, 'cause it already is

and it’s all true, and good and merry
'cause you see through the tears
and they come every night
without reason meaning why

ah oh oh

When all is well I get nervous, something’s missing
If only you could tell me it’s okay, and me listen, cause it already,
All is well, and I know it, when I see you
you don’t need to tell me it’s okay
cause I believe that it already is
already is
already is

I always sleep so much better when it’s raining

I'll be trying to figure out all the lyrics, obviously... it could take a while, and i probally wont get them right, but its a fun way to learn the new song and take time enjoying it over and over again.
(if i get anywhere i'll post it here)

Super-duper-uber THANKS!!!!

I'd love to hear the rest of the concert.  Sometimes I think I enjoy her talks between songs as much as the music.

The lyrics of the new song resemble "Only Happy When It Rains" by Garbage, but the music is obviously way different (and way kick-ass) and I think Vanessa's song is deeper.  She adds another layer to it.  Instead of just singing about feeling something's missing when she's too happy, she adds that stuff about having someone there that understands the way she feels and that it's okay to be happy.

She called this song dark, but I'm not sure I completely agree with that.  It's more 50/50, like "Twilight."  It's got dark subject matter, but the overall message is uplifting, not tragic.  I know it's her song and it is whatever she says it is, but I've heard much darker stuff from her and if this is what qualifies as dark, then she's changed a little.

I LOVE all the new songs, but I hope there are at least a couple on the next album that are purely dark like "Paradise," "She Floats," "The Wreckage," "Half A Week Before The Winter,"  you get my drift.

I hope Vanessa's album gets released by about Fall.  That way, I'll just about be getting off of my Wreckers high over the Summer and I'll have a brand new Vanessa album to shoot me straight up again! :D
