Wow, aren't we a chatty bunch? I know there are plenty of singing nessaholics.

I have heard it said that one must let their soul sing for them, and I agree, but I believe that correct placement & breathing, and learning to master the vowels/dipthongs (an a painter would learn how to first hold the brush, and different brush strokes, etc.), are the most important technical aspects....

The first time I ever sang infront of an audience was horrible...I sang through the whole song (which was wanted) and I didnt know that the keyboard was too loud and the mic didnt work until I'm half way done with the song and one of the hosts of the show comes and stands next to me with a mic..and I had to sing like that for the rest of the song...but they let me do it over. It was embaressing, but it's ok.

Well, I now have something to contribute to this thread.  I just had my first voice lesson last night...it was interesting.  I hope it will be worth the $92 freakin' dollars a month.   :roll:

I'm going to learn some Phantom of the Opera.  Oh yeah!

If it just wasn't for that "legal right to work in the U.S." requirement, I'd totally go out for Idol this year. 8)

Idol is a soulless machine.

If you REALLY want to be a REAL ARTIST, Idol will not nurture that dream. It's up to you, there is no "easy" shortcut to fame & fortune.

I know Kelly Clarkson has done well, but for every success story there are numerous failures. For example, a former Australian Idol, Casey Donovan, has been dropped by Sony because she lost them in excess of $12,000,000. She was only 16 when she won Idol, and now she has this black cloud over her head and people think of her as a flop, a real joke.

I hope it is Shannon. My vocal coach is really wonderful. He has helped me immeasurably. My voice is stronger, louder, and I have increased my range a lot. The other thing he has taught me is confidence. He is really encouraging. His lessons cost $100 a month (a lesson a week), but seeing I plan to make a career out of singing it is worth every cent.

Are your lessons "singing lessons" or "vocal coaching"? They're very different things...

I'm sure the lessons will be worth it. I started taking lessons about a year ago. Mine are $180 for a month, or $45 for one lesson. They've helped me so very much. I've gained a half-auctive in range since the begining of my lessons.
