FAQ / Board Issues / Server Maintenance (02Feb05 4AM-6AM PST (-0800))

And it ran 30 minutes over.  Didn't realize there was quite so much crap on disk to copy over.  Oh well, it's up and happy now.

Completely Off-Topic / Warning: eBay scam

Another reason to use Firefox, or some other browser besides MSIE.  Most of these scams use known problems in MSIE, and as IE doesn't jump up and down about obvious mismatches like that, it's easy to fake it.  Firefox  on the other hand, shows the site the SSL cert is for, right on the browser, right by the lock, as well as yellowing the address bar.  Now, once market shares go up, I'd expect more scammers to try and make their work cross-browser, but for now it's a much safer option.

Fishbowl, Tokyo tea.

Don't remember much from 11:30pm to when I woke up the next day, and even then I felt like I was run over by a truck.  Never again that much.  Ever.  Didn't get sick.

This server will be going down for maintenance on February 2, 2005 from 4AM-6AM PST (-0800).  This time will be used to install and configure a set of mirrored 60GB drives for website and database storage.

Another tip to not get totally schnonkered... don't mix your boozes.  If you're drinking vodka drinks, stay with vodka drinks.  You start throwing rum, whiskey, gin, etc. on top of it, and the only thing you're gonna be on top of is the Porcelain Throne making your offering and singing hallelujahs... or something which might sound like you're saying 'hallelujah' at least...

Main jobs in this area for those still in the school years are holiday retail, food services and during the summer: the amusement parks.  Seems to be about it, as noted above, unless you've got an 'in' somewhere for an internship, and then you're likely not paid.

No, that's just a fat inode.  Too much turkey.  For some reason I have a feeling it's got a weight loss plan in its future.  :)

It was a virus attack.  As soon as I put in a filter to block them from even trying to hit the board, those connections vanished.  I also reset the high user count as it was no longer anywhere near accurate.

They won't take my blood on the count of my heart has this odd tendency to beat so slow it stops for 1-2 beats.

Which is kinda funny/weird when you suddenly get real quiet... then cough.  Almost like a kickstart, it seems.

fishing.....I'll pass on being in a boat in the middle of nowhere trying to get fish. 8)

You've evidently missed out on the whole point of fishing.  It's to be in the middle of nowhere, away from the people who annoy you, and for some to drink beer.  Catching fish is a sometimes unwelcome end result.  Then you hafta clean 'em and such.

When I think of redneck, the first things which pop into my mind are: that old coot from the Warner Brother's cartoons, Hatfield/McCoy (Stonefield/Maclure), and po' folk in the South who ain't got nothing to do but avoiding them durn revenooers.  Too much Dukes of Hazzard as a kid I guess...

Now, my dad identifies himself as a redneck... country music, hunting, fishing, playing with cars/etc., so I guess that would tend to be the more refined outlook on it, if we go by his definition.
