boxing day appartently in ryan's canadian version is when you box up all your gifts you don't like and take them back to the store - there are huge sales so you can exchange your gifts and get more because it is cheaper on that day ---

You mean stores dont have big sales on Boxing Day down there????We get killed with returns on boxing day at our store....

yeah what the hell!? that just defeats the purpose of boxing day altogether if theres no sales!

A canadian tradition:
Canadian thanksgiving!!:
very similar to american but far less grandiose and celebrated. I dont even know when it is in fact! october 13th or so?? I think we may have just copied the US and we didn't even do that very well...oh well :) turkey's tasty, and this way you get to christmas right after halloween!

I've decided to quote this whole thread.

1 - I'm Jewish (actually my Dad is).
2 - You've never heard of St. Nick's Day?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?! The shoes and things - Since I'm an 8th grader now :D :D :D We get to put the crap in the kids' shoes.
3 - My cousin's name is Lucy. I'm offended.
4 - I can play and sing a song about dredles (sp?) on the piano. Ooo - Multi-talented, I know. I still need to work on talking on the phone and typing, though.

That's all I read. I'm too lazy to read the second page.

Io! Io! Saturnalia!

It's the pagan holiday that Christmas is based on (except the Jesus thing, that we made up on our own!)

We celebrated it in Latin class! (now I have to go to confession - lol!)

It was a week long holiday, 17-24th of December, and then the Roman emeperor made Christianity the offical religion but the Romans wanted to keep the Saturnalia so they did and tacked on more day on to the holiday, the 25th.  Let's do the math here.

Saturn was an old guy who lived at "the pole" in a "snowy realm"
