Other Musicians / Tori Amos

English first:

I have tried and tried but I can't figure out what the two guys are saying in that song (anyone else know). I read somewhere they were talking about a new microphone and Tori somehow picked it up and asked what language they were talking in (What language?). They said Dutch and asked whether they should continue in English. Her response: No, Dutch. Then she basically thought up the entire song based on the fact that the voices resembled voices from pilots. Anyone know whether this is true? I think it's so cool that she just made a song out of thin air.

Hoezo?
Nog meer vragen? :)

Hell yeah, I'm just around the corner  :D

But anyhoo, I have so many favourite songs that it would take too long to list them all.

However, Not the Red Baron is definitely somewhere in the top 5. I don't know why but I love that song. And it's not because she mentions the Dutch language  8)

time to dust off this thread here and bring it back to life a little.

Tori has a new album coming which is due May 1st and it goes by the name of American Dolls Posse. I think I read somewhere that this album would be different so I am intruiged.
And the first promo photo is well......Tori. check it out.
There  is also a tour coming and I am seriously considering to go to one of her concerts.
Are there any other Tori fans around?

Polls / Sexual Orientation
« on: January 03, 2007, 04:15:47 am »
People who think you choose to be gay are definitely not the smartest people around (in my opinion). Because if gay people choose to be gay that implies that all straight people at some point in their lives choose to be straight. I have never heard from any of my straight friends that they made a choice and if you would have a poll amongst straight people iI would bet that practically nobody ever made that choice.
So if straight people never considered the choice, why would gay people? The only choice you make is whether you accept who you are or not.

Ohhhh.....I just got all teary-eyed....that was such a pretty song.....she has really improved so much in the past few years in the song writing department. I am so touched right now.

I actually don't like her new stuff as much as her older songs.... apart from All Is Well (which has that dark "edge" I like), they're good, but a bit too "pop" for me... does anyone else feel the same way?

I agree with you. I was more or less hoping that the new material would be in the same direction as the second half of Harmonium (HAWBTW, C'est la vie), but until now I haven't heard anything like it.

Not that I don't like the new songs, because I do like them.....sort of. But they are not as good as her older songs.

I'm really hoping Morning Sting will be on the new album. That song was great.

Thanks for the reply and yes it has to be the second one.

Good to see that there are some other Dutch people here as well and from Utrecht even. Now your "location" could very well be not far off the mark.

Hey people, been a long time since I posted something here. I posted some song lyrics a while back which weren't finished at that time, but they are now and I have written some new stuff. So all who are willing to read them, I invite you to do so. The old one has undergone some changes in the second half and the title has changed. It was previously known as 'Mob justice' and is now called 'Not the witches'.  Any comments are of course much appreciated.

Not the witches

hate flows like honey
so sweet, so easy
it oozes right outside his door
pitchforks and torches at the ready
mob justice it's time to do some good
the sinful living has made another victim
or so they say, or so they say

pray he won't, pray he won't
pray for absolution
down on his knees

love, such a virtue just a sin
never thought it would cause the state he's in
claiming innocence a claim that's just
but look to he left and you can see him run
to no avail, there's no escape
they will purge the disease from his veins
though he's not ill
broken bones will be his medicine

but pray he won't, pray he won't
pray for absolution
down on his knees

words and dirt, it's killing
there are ashes on his lips
it just proves that he burns so easily
how I'd wish to tell him
there's no need to breathe
cause they might be the self-proclaimed
stainless steel
how dare they say that their hands are clean
when all they need is a stone to throw

and it's the bitterness of ignorance
that haunts him, haunts him
all these people saying he's the one to blame
it's the ignorance, the ignorance
it hunts him, hunts him
no choices made, hated all the same
this mistake has already been made
witches burning, burning at the stakes

pray he won't, pray he won't
pray for absolution
down on his knees

hate flows, I know, so sweetly
time will tell it was all a lie
________________________________

And the new one (which is almost completed, the question marks show where I want some more lines)

Tin Man

Hey tin man, tin man
telling me you got yourself a heart
Oh tin man, tin man
telling me you got yourself a heart
to give

well I know your kind
you ride the high
and bury the wreckage in the morning
I know your kind
you ride the high
you alpha male you

hey tin man, silver shell man
nothing at the center
you're a vacuum
you got nothing to give

there are better ways to waste your time
I know your kind you ride the high
there are better ways to waste your time
I know your kind you ride the high

your clockwork hunger is calling you again
from under your skin
where alarm bells have started to ring
'cause you want it
you want it bad
don't you want it
you crave the empty

and that heart you are so willing to give
I bet you found it in
one of the bargain bins
at mother cocaine's

hey tin man, tin man
telling me you got yourself a heart
oh tin man, tin man
telling me you got yourself a heart
to give

Got a really boring day at the university yesterday and managed to write a few lines. Woohoo!!
The new lines are:

words and dirt, it's killing
there are ashes on his lips
it just proves he burns so easily
how I'd like to tell him
there's no need to breathe
no need to breathe
and they are the self proclaimed stainless steel
but that don't mean
that their hands are clean
they just like to think they've seen the light

The last line is subject to change, but I think the rest is pretty much there to stay.
And btw the whole "no need to breathe" thing.... I hope it doesn't come off as psycho or violent in any way. In my opinion the sentence has something strangely comforting. That's why I put it in.

just some lyrics, it's only half finished so there's more to come even though I've been pondering on it for quite a while. hope you people like it.

this movie was so great!!! It's so funny and Johnny Depp is amazing in it. I didn't like him as an actor a few years ago but ever since I saw Sleepy Hollow I have gotten a whole lot of respect for him and  almost every movie he stars in is brilliant.

Oh yeah and that mother of Violet...it just cracks me up just thinking about her.

I saw War of the Worls yesterday. It was okay I guess. Some stupid errors that Spielberg could very well have avoided and the ending was a bit lame

And some things were copied almost straight from Jurassic Park, that could have been better.

like?

sorry to be so late with responding to this but anyhow, the scene in the basement with Tim Robbins reeked pretty much of the kitchen scene in Jurassic Park. (Spoilers by the way) When they are hiding behind the mirror and the girl's foot slips is very reminiscent of the part with the spoon thing (I'm not english so don't know the exact word) that drops in the kitchen scene in Jurassic Park. And there are some other shots which seem just too familiar: girl in rocking chair/ velociraptor jumping on counter, use of the mirror in deceiving aliens/ dinos. It is just something that I noticed, maybe I'm just being nitpicky.

Things that were totally wrong: why can someone use a camera (just before the massacre begins) when the lightning had just hit over 26 times and fried all the electrical equipment including cars and such. How can they even videotape the aliens in the lightning since there equipment should have been fried. I think that's kind of sloppy.

There are also way too many coincedenses: Tom Cruise and kids driving down a freeway with dozens of cars but they never have to stop or leave the road. After the plane crashes isn't it just a bit of a coincedence their car wasn't hit and there was this nice road they could use even if there should have been loads of rubble there?

About the end: why is the son alive? He could have never survived that and we're not even given an explanation how he survived. It just reeks of an obligatory happy ending. It would have been far more dramatic if the son had died and it would have made a hell of a lot more sense really.

BTW not that I didn't like the movie, it was a true rollercoaster ride, but it was all a bit too much really.
