Baronessa,

So that's why you're so good at these transcribsions; you're a piano teacher. I didn't really know that you were 30-something until I checked out your profile. B/f then, I though you were one of the young folks. No wonder you took it so well when I unknowingly criticized your piano demostrations unintentionally; you're older than most of us.

As for HAWBTW, it looks a little confusing, but looks can be deceiving. But I know you might come back and give us the complete transcribsion like you and Phu usually do. At first glance, I thought some of the notes for Papa were going to be confusing, but when I printed it out, it wasn't so bad.

As for the rest of you piano sheet music fanatics, I have something new for you. I thought I'd lost it [HMBS] or accidently deleted it from my account, but here it is:

A Thousand Miles (accurate version):

Her Most Beautiful Smile, by Rouruni Kenshin

I found this the Piano Forums @ Pianoworld back in early October.

Oops, my bad; Private Radio have already been transcribed.   Forgive the flub-up. I guess Annie's next.

Pretty Baby isn't the most accurate, b/c it's supposed to change to Bb near the end; but I guess it's the Rinse 2000 version, b/c the key stays the same throughout. Well, there ain't nothin' I can't do; I can add my own touches to it; after all, I'm an artist, and I have the ability to make someone else's work my own. I'm not complainin'. None of Van's songs I play sound exactly like her work; I always put variances in her material somewhere.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / V's most difficult song on piano?
« on: March 20, 2006, 03:52:43 pm »
I have to say that my technique and skills have improved since I last posted in this thread. I've also learned a few more songs on the piano. To challenge myself more, I learned part of Alicia Keys' 'Harlem's Nocturne', which is a classical piece somewhat, on the piano. I only learned in a few days.

Anyway, the hardest Vanessa songs to play so far is Who's To Say [the piano rhythm and riffs were so tricky that it took several months to figure the song out] and Papa. I printed out only the first page of WTS and learned the rest by ear. I only printed out the first 2 pages of Papa and learned the rest by ear. On most of V's songs I don't play the songs exactly like she plays them; I add my own flavor to them. i.e., I created a jazzy rendition of 'Red Ditty'.

Hi, Baronessa. I've been thinkin' 'bout u, gurl. I knew you would post here again soon. Thank you for the transcribsions of HAWBFTW, b/c it's the song I want to most learn from HARMONIUM. [I already know The Wreckage, Papa, Who's To Say, Afterglow, White Houses, (both C and B Major versions) and bits of C'est La Vie and She Floats.]

I just want everyone to know that when you go to Musicnotes.com now that you can no longer sample-play anything up there anymore; they've done away with that system. But you can go to Sheet Music Direct now to do that on Sibileus Scorch, but it's not the same, though.

I also came up here to let everyone know that that means that the seperate versions of 'Annie' and 'Private Radio' that were accurate, availiable @ Musicnotes.com, are now out of print, unfortunately. So I was wondering would anyone do transcribsions of them, considering the fact that the songbook versions suck. No pressure; it's just a little suggestion.

Keri Noble. She's like a cross between Nora Jones and Vanessa Cartlon. I'm still trying to figure out how to get her songclip 'Come And Talk To Me' up here for everyone to listen to and for sheet music transcribsion.

Alicia Keys did a similar photoshoot a lot like this one in last summer's issue of VOGUE magazine. The Yamaha was facing the same direction, same white backdrop, and she was sitting on the top of the piano.

Can someone please tell me how to get pictures [and pictures alone] from Getty Images.com? I'm trying to get the picture by itself w/o the description.

I've got an account there already. Now, how do I seperate the pictures from their words?

Here's the link to Van's performances from Rolling Stone Original just in case there's anyone who hasn't seen them:

That's strange. I got BNN through the mail [from BMG Music] in early September of '03, and it had the radio version of Pretty Baby up there, which is rather overproduced. But the original studio album version is prettier.

Is there something I'm missing here, because it sounds like the album version to me, and I even played them side-by-side to compare!

Well, I guess you're right, b/c I've went to several websites that sell CDs and so far, they have this version. The version of BNN that I have has the video [or original] version of Pretty Baby.

I once thought that this was the this tamer version of PB that didn't make the album b/c it wasn't commercial enough, but I'm starting to think that it's more recent. Vanessa [and Ron Fair] probably watered it down and wanted it up there b/c she played this version live and on her original demo. So my bad! I thought that no one had really heard of this version. I first heard it about a year ago now. So pardon my mistake. :)

it's not the album version; it's another version, 'cept it's a little shorter. [/i]

Pretty Baby Audio (Retail/European Version): Here's the link to the version of Pretty Baby that everyone's been making such a big fuss over. This is also the version that she plays live, and it's really pretty. Maybe now someone will be able to transcribe it.

I thought all of the videos were stupid, bad and cheesy. Even though the gurl in the last one was apparently a dancer, she definitely didn't do the choreography in the video justice. Neither did that clown with the bad wig who was at the piano and obviously can't play it. I was embarrased to watch all 3 videos, especially with the ugly gurl and guy. I guess there's more room in the nuthouse for the people that needs to be there.

If I remade the video, I would at least do Van justice. Not only can I play the song on piano, I also love the chorography and would love to learn it, even though I'm not a dancer; but I was a part of dance class in my high school.
