Heard "San Francisco" at an IGA (grocery store) the other day here in Vancouver. I started singing along, much to the bewilderment of my friend.

Awesome to have the studio version, but I gotta say, I prefer the live version with the extended violin intro. It had such a great Celtic/Irish feel to it that I thought worked magically.

Actually, I think it's "Get a move on it."

"Operator" has some great pop melodies (I can't stop listening to it -- so catchy!). Am I the only who thinks this would explode as a single?

Really digging this song too. I also realized that this is probably the "Do It" song from the list of songs on the chalkboard from way back when.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / ''Twilight'' in Morning movie trailer

This movie seems to be three years old, so I don't know if anyone posted about this already, but I saw this on imdb's homepage today and was pleasantly surprised to hear a good chunk of ''Twilight'' in the trailer. Here's a link to the imdb page/trailer and also the link on youtube.

I don't know if I just didn't see this before, or didn't have an answer... but let's see... I'm going to give you one from each album

BNN - Rinse
Harmonium - Private Radio
H&T - More Than this **(probably a good one to do!)
ROTR - Tall Tales for Spring ... OR In the End

I think each one has a good theme, easy enough to understand without being too metaphorical.  I realize it's probably too late so..what did you go with??

Thanks for your all your thoughtful responses (as I reply many months later).  I eventually decided to keep it simple and chose "White Houses".  There are too many, well-written good songs to choose from!

Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / Best songs (lyrically)

I'm in the Creative Writing program at my university and am taking a Lyrics course this term.  For our first assignment, we have to bring in a recording of a song by our favourite songwriter, and since I've been a fan of Vanessa's for such a long time, I thought I would pick a song by her.

I was thinking of "Half a Week Before the Winter" because of the allegorical fight between vampires and unicorns, but I also love the story in "White Houses", and it's a song I could listen to forever and never be sick of.

What do you think is her best song, lyrically, and why?

Walked into RW&Co just as "Hands On Me" began.  Was so excited and surprised to hear a song other than ATM being played in Vancouver that I sang the song not-so under my breath. :)

I really hope that this album has a Vince Guaraldi "Charlie Brown's Christmas" feel to it!

Now that you mention it, it reminds me of how Vanessa's said she loves "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and the music to it-- "Christmas Time is Here" would be a fantastic song for her, especially since I can see her having a lot of fun playing the piano for the song.  Also, it's a damn awesome song in it's own right too.

On amazon.ca, it says the book still hasn't been released, but there are pages that can be previewed!!!  Unfortunately, it does look like it's yet another melody-in-the-right-hand transcriptions.  Parts of "Carousel" and "Tall Tales for Spring" are available for preview here:

Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / Re: Get Good
« on: September 06, 2011, 07:05:41 pm »
Has anybody else cried when listening to this song?  My bf and I recently broke up (or more accurately, I gave him the choice and he decided to end things) and since V has said this song was written for a friend who was contemplating divorce, the song serves as a really great pep talk, that I'll get good again-- and this part especially in the chorus, gets me.

Before our relationship ended, whenever I heard "Get Good", it always made me feel calm and grounded, and I like that it takes on a deeper, different meaning for me now.

According to amazon.ca and Barnes and Noble, the release date has been changed to Sept. 6.  Hmm.
