How come sometimes my unread threads get marked read?

this has happened on more than one occasion, i'll go out for the evening come home and all the threads i haven't read will be read which makes it hard me me to knwo what's new

Once you close the internet, it ends your sessions.  The unread posts are only the new ones since you were last on the comp.  That's what it does for me.
I think you underestimate the level of my sneakiness

But like I am usually always signed on NH.com and the browser is always open that's why i didn't know what was going on

For efficency reasons the server automatically kills off your session after a certain length of inactive time. This causes a log off (which can be unnoticed if it's set to auto-login each time). So you lose all your "unread sinse last login information".
