« on: July 15, 2003, 08:27:23 am »
I'm so not the person for interviews.  I'm nervous and shy during the interview.  eeeeee  Why does my brain stop working?  ok, so I need some support because I have a few today.  I have alot of work to do before them but I'll check back from time to time today.  Help me! :)

I feel your pain Ty. I'm exactly the same.

Why does my brain stop working?

Once, in an interview a while ago, they asked me my age and I said 18 (instead of 20). I have no idea why :?. But I got the job anyway, so obviously doing stupid things like that doesn't make too much difference. And every interview without fail I have had a list of questions to ask and can never remember any of them at the end!

You know, im the exact opposite.  I love interviews.  I like having my future depend on my ability to dazzle an interviewer.  Without that I wouldn't stand out much from the 100's of other developers out there.  I mean, my tech skills aren't more impressive than other engineers my age but I am VERY good with people.

Just remind yourself that they've looked at your CV (or resumé if you're american ; ) and got you in for an interview rather than shredding it. This means that they like the look of you .. you have the skills to do the job. They just want to make sure you're okay as a person. Also remember that it's not just them working out if they want you to work for them.. it's also you working out if you want to work for them. It's great when you end up grilling the interviewer about the company. Shows you have a proper interest in the company and the work you'll be doing. Also .. assume you have the job. Say things like "How much holiday will I get" rather than "How much holiday would I get" .. sounds more positive .. sounds as though you know you're going to get the job, but not in an arrogant way.

But at the end of the day .. I feel your pain .. I can get a little nervous, although not half as much as I used to. The last one I went to I actually intimidated the interviewer lol. I don't think he had any braincells anyway =)

Just relax and be yourself and if that fails, bribe the bastards ; )

Thanks guys I feel much better.

One is a file prep job and the other is an electronic assembly job with soldering and all that jazz.  Funny thing is I'm more nervous about the file prep interview  because I really don't have any experience in that line of work proffesionally(not that you really need any :) )  The degree I'm going for is a big plus for the assembly job so...

I can sell myself but I just hate having to do it in an interview environment.

I wanted an electronic assembly job so that I could use all their fancy expensive equipment for my own stuff. But sadly there is nothing in that line of work around where I live.

Hope you get it. If you do, I'll ship you things to solder ;)
