iMac help!
« on: November 08, 2003, 04:37:44 pm »
okay, i need your iMac help again!

I have Mac Os 8.5, and i usually use explorer as the server, but i do have Netscape as well. Everytime i'm on explorer and I click a link to download a song that's hosted on someone's webpage, this window popus up called "Download Manager." The song downloads, but i don't know how to get it to play. If I double click it, a window pops up with the url location and such...I tried opening it in Quicktime, but it says that a component is missing so it can't open it......

can someone please help me? i would be much obliged if you would!

First things first. Let's get your software up to date. Lets start by upgrading you to 8.6, which has some significant improvements over 8.5 in stability and usability.

Mac OS 8.6 Installation Guide

Do you have AIM? I'll walk you through all the things you need to do and I'll get you the 8.6 updater, which I can't seem to find on the site.

There are plenty of things I wanna do. I sounds like your computer may be pretty thrashed. I'll see if I can help you breathe some new life into it.

Also, I'll get ya SoundJam. You'll love it. It's the best mp3 player ever written for any platform. I keep an old mac around running that as a jukebox in the living room.

thankfully my mom's saving up for a g5...i can't wait till we get it, i'm hoping it will be a surprise Xmas present, but i doubt it    thanks m125boy (sorry, i don't know your name   ) for all your help!  i'm sorry i bugged you all day. unfortunately, i couldn't figure out limewire, and everytime i turned my computer on and tried to load it it froze....so i deleted it.  eh well, i went this long without a music downloader, what's the difference now, right? Macs are okay, i do admit that they are much easier to operate and learn on than PC's, i just prefer PC's b/c they don't break down as much as my mac!

if macs are properly cared for they will hardly ever break down or require repair - the mac operating system is much more stable and macs hardly ever get viruses - they are the best computers for graphics exceleration and they are much smarter than pcs - they are much faster, have better memory, hard drive, etc - because of the way their processor works comparitively to a pc they last a hell of a lot longer-

down sides to a mac (other than a g3-g5 tower) are - they are harder to find gaming software for (which who needs with xbox, ps2, and game cube), they are harder to upgrade (if you have an imac or toaster/cube), and the earlier imacs and other g3's had some overheating issues - but i have a 333 G3 and it is comparitive to a 650 pc so it's all good

mumble mumble mumble

(and do i even have to mention imovie, studio monitors, mac flat screens, firewire, ipods, etc -- apple is the best - yay steve jobs!!!)

I love how the Rev. A-D iMacs have such crappy analog boards. At work, we have three of them that work perfectly, but the analog boards are shot. We don't have the money to replace them. So, we are putting the logic board and drives in a normal PC tower. I even put a PIII sticker on the front of one of the cases. I'm evil
