The first song I learnt was happy birthday when I was 4, by ear.
I actually took up piano at 10.

i used to play piano for 2 years when i was 10 years old, and i have to say, it is the hardest instrument for me to learn. it's so frustrating because i can play clarinet, flute and oboe but i can't manage to use 2 hands when i play piano.

Hmmm. That's weird. I've been playing piano for almost 6 years now and I think it's the easiest instrument to play. I play the violin and it's quite hard. Maybe it's because you started when you were 10 years old, I started when I was at least 7 and my fingers developed that good arc and bend so I guess that's probably it.

Cavin, why don't you ask your parents for lessons, I'm sure it will help if you want to play some of Vanessa's songs. Also, you can search at youtube.com for "How to play..." stuff.

I do the youtube "how to play" often. I am trying White Houses, but I don't get one part and seems pretty impossible to move my left hand at a different rate than my right.

yea that part was rediculously hard for me to learn, but once I figured out the rhythm of it, it was simple. I don't know... I kinda think of it as the notes flowing from the left hand into the right hand haha if that makes sense. good luck though! I think that part's the most fun to play..

The left hand part of White Houses close to the bridge is pretty tricky. I believe it's syncopated so that makes it harder. But keep on practicing and you'll eventually get it.  :D

I taught myself to play piano and the first song I ever learned was Twilight. Twilight is a very simple song to play and a good starting place in my opinion. Ordinary Day is also quite easy.
