The Neptunes (N.E.R.D., whatever you wanna call 'em)
« on: January 02, 2005, 10:08:02 pm »

I figured the Neptunes deserved having a thread more or less just because of the "contribution" they've made to the music industry over the past few years. Some of their beats have totally changed the game, and they've branched from rock, to rap, to even pop. So they've been all over the spectrum. As I call them, "masters of the tin can beat," some of their beats are completely awful, but some are seriously hot. If nothing else, almost all of them are pretty innovative and trail-blazing.

They have some interesting music themselves, too.

Yeah B you know how I feel about the neptunes.  At first I really hated them for the same reason I hated Eminem.  The music was just annoying.  Then once you start assessing the musical side of it, you realize there is just more than " trash can , bang on coke cans" production.  Even though the style is simple, the shit gets you movin and noddin your head.  I also agree that some ( 50%) of the beats sound exactly the same and the formula gets tired.  Saying that though look at the history of the neptunes.  They have made so many hit songs that define the late 90's and the 2000's.  They were the " go to" producers for a hit song, but now I think it is Lil Jon and Dr Dre.

I still think they rock and are the go-to producers. I mean, look at all the songs/albums they've produced (or produced on) in 2004:

Nelly - Suit and Sweat
Gwen Stefani - Love.Angel.Music.Baby
Jadakiss - Kiss of Death
Lil Jon and the Eastside Boys - Crunk Juice
Snoop Dogg - Rhythm and Gangsta
