growth is great.. i'm all for it. but i feel like she's taken a step backwards with nolita fairytale. i mean, from who's to say, private radio, winter(!), c'est la vie.. to "got my toes on my pup at the foot of my bed"? i mean, really...

lol.

How do you go from "I'm Like A Birrrrrrrrd" to "Promiscuous Gurrrrl."

I believe you have Timbaland to thank for that.
And it's bad news, baby it's bad news
It's just bad news, bad news, bad news
'Cause you're just damage control
For a walking corpse like me - like you,
'Cause we'll all be portions for foxes
Yeah, we'll all be portions for foxes.

I also think Unsung would have done well as a single!! Much better than Pretty Baby... imo that song was a disaster.

the thing is-nolita fairytale is exceedingly catchy. Lyricaly (sp?) its not as clever as her older songs. But musicaly, its genius. Most people loved it right away  :D

although I am a huge fan of all her songs, some take getting used to. Not everyone is patient enough to listen to them repetitivly.

and lastly- unsung wouldnt have done well! Its so hard to like. I'm only just beginning to like it and I have had the album for years

OK i'm done =]

Very true. Her old stuff is good, but I never really found myself listening to it as much as with Vanessa or some other music artist.

just because someone is changing they're style, doesn't mean they're selling out. people change.
you can't expect people to be the same person they were 6 or 7 years ago.

I don't think V is selling out, but I kind of think Nelly Furty did.

But hey! This is about V!

So, yeah. October 9th. ^_^.

I totally agree....i dont think Nelly sold out...this just seems to be the musical style she feels comfortable with now...she doesnt seem like the kind of person who would just do that to sell more records and appeal to more people/..

Vanessa is not selling out like Nelly Furtado did, this song is not that much different from her old ones it's just less piano oriented; also if you listen to the other songs that will be in the album like "Heroes and Thieves" or "Hands on Me" it becomes pretty obvious that she is not changing her style and these songs don't sound like the music that we listen on the radio all the time, so it's not like she is desperately seeking for commercial success (even if she could use some), wich is what Nelly Furtado did with "Loose" (or at least that's how I see it).

So, what Nelly Furtado did and what Vanessa is doing are very different things, I understand that some of you don't like "Nolita Fairytale" but that doesn't mean that Vanessa is selling out.

When did this become about Nelly Furtado anyway?

i don't know.. i don't think she's quite selling out, but i wish she went to radio with something less bubble gum-y and poppy.. i think hands on me would be perfect. or heroes and thieves, which was originally supposed to be the first single.

now, i don't remember everything about spring street and wave goodbye, cuz that was a long time ago, but at least one of them reminded me of techno or something like that.. that would be very close to what i'd call selling out. but like i said.. i don't remember it all.

i would like to point out something, that i think i've pointed out before.. i don't really like nolita fairytale.. and i haven't listened to it in a pretty long time, but i still have it stuck in my head. that's not all that great for me, because i don't like it, but at least it's catchy and that will probably help radio play..

she's not selling out. I think she's trying to stick it to her old label.
regardless.......she's amazing. I love the song. that's it
