how does H&T compare to Harmonium and Be Not Nobody?
« on: September 26, 2007, 05:07:49 pm »
for the people that have listened to the leak, do you think it's better or worse than Vanessa's two previous efforts?

I think it's better than Be Not Nobody but as of right now I'm leaning towards saying Harmonium is the best of the three.

I don't think anything can top 'Harmonium' for me, but I like 'Heroes & Thieves' better than 'Be Not Nobody'.

Vanessa lets me down with her music. All three albums are great.

I think HaT is Vanessa's best work, by far.

I think this album will be one that people still put in to listen to years to come.

Let me put it this way, I'm a guy who used to always listen to Vanessa's music in private because it USED to be my guilty pleasure-- I was too embarassed to blast it out of my speakers because of how terribly poppy some songs were on the other two albums.

Yet, I feel like I could blast 'heroes and thieves' with my windows down driving down the street.

musically and lyrically it is genius.

one of the best records I have heard in forever.
and once the public hears this I know she'll be getting more attention than ever.

I'm going to have to give it time. I'm still a little overwhelmed by the whole thing... I have this weird feeling about the production of the album. Is it just me, or do the strings sound fake? I don't know, they're probably real, knowing V... or it sounds like it's just 10 strings, not a full orchestra, which I really miss and really liked about Harmonium and BnN... I really love these songs though! I'm going to have to give it more time before I decide if it's better than Harmonium or not.

They're real, lol. :P

I contacted the person who stands in front of the orchestra and tells them what to do with the stick (God, that sounds really bad) and he was telling me what it was like working with Vanessa and what the sound of the album was like, etc.

It is like A LOT better than Be Not Nobody, not saying that BNB was bad.

To Harmonium, I can't decide. I mean if you compare the themes than H&T is like different than Harmonium of course so in theme wise its like not that great compared to Harmonium. But if you just compare the music and sttuf I think its pretty well compared to Harmonium. I just hold Harmonium close to mee because that album is just so colose to my hert in many ways.

but here are my raitings

BNB: 8/10
Harmonium:10/10
H&T:9/10

This is her best album. There's not one dud on the album. All the song have something to offer. And they all sound so different, but they still mantain the same style.

Commercial?

I think each song on Heroes & Thieves sounds very commercial. Every song sounds like it could be a single you know? That's why I'm still deciding about it. It's all very good....almost too good. I wonder what some of the reviews will sound like?

And all the constellations, shine down on you and me...

i think "harmonium" is my favorite out of all 3, just because i love all the songs to death in it, while i like about half of h&t's songs like, lots more than harmonium's, and i like the rest, a lot, too.
...idk if that made sense, i suck at wording stuff :P

The song Heroes and Thieves sounds like an irish jig rhythmically at first listen.     It makes me want to go to a pub.  :)
