Vanessa Carlton's List of Music You Should Hear

Albums

My Morning Jacket, Z
A classic record. These boys belong in the 70's. They should be playing arenas.

Neil Young, After The Gold Rush
I go through phases, but i keep turning this album on at happy hour.

Fleetwood Mac, Rumours
One of the great albums of all time. A total influence of mine. Not to mention, I recorded a lot of Heroes and Thieves in the same spots Rumours was made.

Stevie Nicks, Bella Donna
Stevie is the greatest rock goddess ever. She is also the coolest chick I know. I'm so lucky to know her. I believe I wouldn't have made Heroes and Thieves without Stevie's guidance and faith. She also sequenced the album and sang on "The One."

Arcade Fire, Funeral
I admire the arts and crafts feeling of these arrangements. This album definitely inspired some of the palettes that I used for my record.

Ray LaMontagne, Trouble
Classic album. Insanely great.

Joy Division, Substance
A friend schooled me on Joy Division and I fell in love. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is one of the great songs of all time. Kinetic and creepy at the same time. Love the distortion.

Peter Bjorn and John, Writer's Block
My new artist discovery. They are so melodic and I love the production.
They are risk takers but still hookey.

Bob Marley, Rebel Music (New Packaging)
Essentially all I listen to is Bob Marley and classical music. They put me in the same state of mind. I miss Bob.

Movies

Pete's Dragon (Disney Gold Classic Collection)
I learned how to click my heels from this!!!

Disney's Fantasia
Reminds of good things. Music and animation is wonderful.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (Widescreen Edition)
Michel Gondry is on another level. Kate Winslet is always extraordinary. I saw this movie and it reinstilled my subscription to Hollywood. I thought, "Oh, this is why we make films."

Jaws (30th Anniversary Edition)
Favorite film and soundtrack of all time.

TV

Freaks and Geeks - The Complete Series

I loved Pete's Dragon. I grew up on that movie, I loved it. I miss classic cartoons like that. Freeks and Geeks was probably one of the best shows ever on fox family/abc family. love her movie and tv taste.

Oh my God. Freaks and Geeks is quite possibly the greatest short-lived high school series ever. Rock on.
