So I'm taking MA171 in college. it's basically a math class for people who want to become elementary teachers (that's not what i want to do though)  anyway I have this homework assignment with a question I cannot get. I've been working on it for HOURS. so please help :)

it's a sequence....

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, ____, ____

I thought it was a Fibonacci sequence..but I dont know..

Unless you teacher specified not to I just repeat it so the answer would be 1,2,3,4,5,8,1,2,3... (so on). It would be wrong but thats what I do. lol.

It starts out a lot like a Fibonacci series, but the 4 in there throws that off.   1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13... would be the start of a Fibonacci series.  I've been trying to work on this myself for a while because I like series and patterns.

The four does throw it off..maybe it's a misprint. But my professor would of caught that before hand. I love patterns and sequences also, fun!

Yeah, I don't know. My pattern is just 5 numbers, skip 2, write the next number and start over, and they are all multiples of 8. Well I didn't keep going forever, but that's the only pattern I could make out of it. And where in elementary education they are learning their multiples and probably don't know tons of advanced math, it might be right? I don't know!

^it really depends on your career track, if you are an architect or an artist [specifically sculptor] you will use more than someone who might be something else. for me it wont be much use, i'll be an actor. but its good for taxes if you live in the US i guess.

I have a BA in English, basically should have been deemed Classical Literature if you ask me, and I am not very good at math typically, but sequences and fun number puzzles are fun at least. But yeah, that's literally the first time I've ever heard someone call a degree in English, ahem Literature, a better idea than a degree in Math! Not that I would ever have wanted to major in it personally.

So I have the answer (someone in my class gave it to me) anyway so easy:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 7, 16

Okay, so...you go 1 , 3, 5, 7. Wich are odd numbers. Then you go 2 times 2 is 4, 4 times 2 is 8 and 8 times 2 is 16.

I cannot believe I couldnt figure that out

since this is a section where a lot of people seems to be interested in, I came across a problem on my adv. algebra 2 test today that I couldn't solve!!! And it bugs me that I couldn't solve it!!!  :evil:  Can anyone help me???

here it is:

Solve for "x"

a(x-3)+8 = b(x-1)
