LOVE that line, there's so much attitude in it.  I think part of the reason I love it is because I'm used to hearing it as "You're fragile as porcelain..." after the second chorus, so it throws me for a loop everytime I hear it in this new way.

Yeah, "you're as fragile as porcelain" was the former lyric for the bridge. But, since time has passed, it seems like she's edited some of the lyrics to the songs. Also, I think that the title itself used to be "Fairweather Friends" , not "Friend."

this is an argument for another thread for sure, but I don't think it was ever supposd to be pleural seeing how the songs is most definitely about one person in particular.  just my opinion and not the right place to be saying so but I just couldn't resist!

Well I think we assumed that was the title because in the original version, the song ended with "We're fairweather friends."  I think that was the only time the phrase was in the song, which was why we assumed.  But yeah that song has changed a LOT since we first heard it.

Another favorite: "You can't deny me, you will oblige me, it's my melody" from Private Radio.  It's so angsty and awesome.

On the verge of crying on how much truth these lyrics apply to me right now....me and my friend are like not friends anymore and we know we're both strangers to each other and it just doesn't work out T____T

oh raacheeel I know just what you  mean.  I knew this friend since I was eight. We were inseperable until we graduated high school.  Now we see/talk maybe once a year (it's nice for the most part it seems like we just pick up where we left off, with total trust) but for a few years we didn't even speak or write to each other at all.  we have recently tried reconnecting but she is in such a different place in her life than I am.  I know that if it is meant to be, if we are truely best friends then one day, we will be just like we were before.  Until that day I just treasure all our memories and the great times that we had.
