I'm super worried about the sales. Don't want R&T to drop her, and i def do not want this to be the last album of her.
Or maybe i'm just overdramatic, I don't really now what is ok sales for an Indie-artist.

Dar Williams has been with R&T a long time, and her highest album charted at #95. So maybe sales isn't everything.

Me neither, but I'm pretty sure 8k or less is still disappointing & worrying. Eek. ><

They won't drop her. Indie artists don't have sales that are really high, just because it's indie music (this is generally speaking).... so ya. I think that R&T recognizes that.... :)

Yeah I agree. She seems to have an understanding with R&T. If you look at the rest of thier roster, these wouldn't be considered bad sales or anything I don't think. That's the good thing about a small label  :)

I know I shouldn't care about sales, but... I do, and less than $7,000 is just extremely disappointing.  This is a really good album, I want more people to hear it, and especially to buy the album and support her work financially, regardless of whether or not she NEEDS the money.

Yeah, it's so sad that a lot of people are missing out of this masterpiece.

Sales are so irrelevant to her career right now. I think the label would hope for around 12-15k given that Heroes started with 18k when the industry was a lot stronger.

It went onto sell around 80k so id say anything above that would not be a realistic expectation, especially given this albums less marketable approach.

As was mentioned, touring is the revenue generator for almost all artists now - which is fuelled by strong record sales, so generating interest and marketing the tour is really the purpose of a hit cd now since the costs only usually really breakeven.

As she self-funded this CD, the only expense to the label will be the promotion, and right now that hasn't exactly been a heavy ads campaign affair, its been almost entirely artist driven. I have to admit the theyve handled her a lot better than THE INC did. Shes one of the more famous names at the label, but fame does not correlate to record sales.

Regardless of sales, people still don't have to buy the album to listen to it. They posted the whole damn thing on aol music. I mean maybe aol had to pay a heavy fee but come on.
The song may be over, but the music never ends.

record sales for an artist such as vanessa carlton is irrelevant, there are a whole set of indie girls and boys making a comfortable living off of sales far less than what is being discussed here. She wont have to work again after the success of her earlier hits so remember this is not necessary, and music will still find its way to us.

Does anybody know the name of the person who designed the cover of the album? I wanna check out her other work if she has any :)

I entered a contest at http://www.thevinyldistrict.com/storefront/2011/07/tvd-vinyl-giveaway-vanessa-carltons-rabbits-on-the-run/
I think I'm too late with my entry but nevermind.
while writeing I came withy an idea of including titles of the songs from the album. here is my entry
"Vanessa, you're the chick
that really got into me
Love your music and your style
love it when vinyl spins fast
all the blackness hits my eyes
white RABBITS are ON THE RUN
like on a CAROUSEL
I'm in a kind of daze
all guns blazing
let me hit the wave
singing DEAR CALIFORNIA
for my FAIRWEATHER FRIEND
we're together on the roof
he tells me you'll GET GOOD
it's not the first time when she said
I DON'T WANT TO BE A BRIDE
Life goes on be a man
We're in LONDON
face the game
HEAR THE BELLS of the church
go and get her there
she'll change her mind
when she sees Jesus and his heart
These are not TALL TALES FOR SPRING
just believe in Him
He will change your lives
IN THE END you'll get your own MARCHING LINE "
Everything changes Friends become strangers
What we hold so dear slips away
The past keeps on fading, but I'll never forget you

my walmart did but they only had 2.  My target did not, only online.  I'm thinking Best Buy would and maybe barnes and noble (they do music right?)
