Yeah. It probably isn't there. It's most likely being moved from one host to the other. So it'll appear as non existent for a day or two while stuff updates.

Noooooo! Well not if they know what they're doing lol .. no .. all the files including databases, asp pages etc will be moved from one host to another so nothing will change. It will simply become faster and more reliable .. we hope!

Well. The coding of the boards leaves a LOT to be desired. I'm amazed at how certain things are done. But not much you can do about it. They obviously have some knowledge of what they're doing considering the system they've put together. I think a lot of issues are down to poor hosting which should soon change hopefully.

Depends how much they have to sort out. I guess they'll be testing it as well. I wouldn't have thought it would take more than a couple of days though. Doesn't take more than that for a domain name to propogate.. I reckon they should in theory have it up by the week.

Yup. All they're doing is moving the site and all the data from one host to another. Everything should remain the same. I'd be very surprised if the move caused something to be different.

If you move a car stereo from one car to another it doesn't suddenly change.. the buttons don't all move around =)

Like I posted in another thread, this outage could have been prevented if they knew what they were doing. This is just showing how professional they are. :P

Anyway, what they could have done is have the Fullerene bboard code and the site on the new server before the transition even begins. Then, about a week before the transition, they set the DNS expiry to some horribly low number. Close both boards. Switch the DNS. Mail the backup tape/HD with the DB same day UPS and restore the DB at the new site. Bring the board back up.

Main site downtime: none (if all went well)
Bboard downtime: 6 hours, more or less.

Pffft. Amatures.
