hehe, I'm currently writing a 5 page report on him for college. He really did have a facinating life!

Some cool things I'm learning so far:

1. he was born into poverty to Vernon and Gladys Presley on January 8th, 1935
2. he was an only child (his twin, Jesse, died at birth)
3. he was in talent compititions by 10 years old and picked up the guitar when he was 11.
4. in 1953 he was a truck driver who was descovered when he stoped by Sam Phillip's recording studio at 18 years old and paid $4 to record 2 tracks. Sam Phillips signed him to Sun Records right away.
5. his first single was "That's Alright" and he recorded 10 2-sided singles for Sun Records
6. He was then sold to RCA-Victor in 1955 for $35,000 plus $5,000 in backed royalties. Obviously a BIG mistake by Sun Records. He went on to have 149 top 40 hits and 92 LP's on the album charts

i've never been the praying kind
but lately i've been down upon my knees
not looking for a miracle
just a reason to believe"
