if you select "all files" instead of .bmp then it will open jpg's and gif's...i do it all the time.

You can still only save as bmp with paint though ..

Hang on .. scrap that! In my version of Paint you can change the file type and save as jpg and giff, amongst others!

Is this because I have Windows XP?? Never noticed that before.
