Here it is!
SOMETHING FRESH FROM FROSH VOCALISTS
A gang of young female singer/songwriters is gearing up for sophomore outings. Michelle Branch releases an album June 24th, Nelly Furtado's next effot arrives Nov. 25th, and Avril Lavign'es latest is due in spring 2004.
And, in a couple of weeks, Vanessa Carlton will begin recording her follow-up to last year's platinum-plus Be Not Nobody. The 22-year-old will co-produce with Third Eye Blind frontman Stephan Jenkins and says the CD, which she expects to unveil around March, will "have songs that stand on their own, with more spontaneous, organic production."
Carlton will play instruments other than the piano and will explore different textures. "I listened to a lot of Beatles and Miles Davis on my last tour, and I think my palette of sounds has expanded. One song I just wrote is kind of like The Cure meets eleanor rigby." Another number, she floats, planned as a duet with Neil Young, is either "about a girl who's living in utopia or a girl who's dead in a puddle. I can't decide."
