"A 13-year-old surfing champion has lost her left arm after being attacked by a shark in Hawaii.
Bethany Hamilton was catching some waves with friends at Tunnels Beach on the Hawaiian island of Kauai when the attack happened.

The shark was thought to be up to 15 feet long and it also took a huge chunk out of Bethany's surfboard.

Bethany had performed well in surfing contests in Hawaii and California and was seen as a rising star in the sport.

She is now recovering in hospital from her ordeal.

Statement

Her family issued a statement confirming that Bethany had lost her left arm just below the shoulder.

Her surfboard was displayed at a local fire station. The shark took a 17-inch wide bite out of the board."

What? Thats the only two handed activity that you'd actually be handicapped at, except for typing... plus thats about the only thing I think about anyway. ^_^

i think your priorities are a bit messed up

I think it's really to bad that she will be unable to surf competitively anymore since that was apparently her goal
