If you are complaining about the lack of music downloading software for the mac, check out mlMac. Connects to the kazaa and eDonkey networks. What I usually use.

reeeeeeaaaaaally? thank you very much for that info! i tried downloading iTunes before, and not even that would work :-P my comp.'s pretty old, a '98 iMac, and there's hardly much to it left. but i'll try that thing you recommended!

iTunes is a music player, not something to download music with. Well, not until recently, anyway.

It sounds like you still might be running Mac OS 8... in which case I recommend Limewire.

As for mp3 players, SoundJam is the best for 8.1->9.2.2. iTunes is the best on Mac OS X.

You do have a point. Many of the tapers are all bitchy about their bootlegs being encoded into lossy formats when the source sucked to begin with. It's a different story, however, with the tape.
