Happy Days
« on: December 02, 2003, 08:14:10 pm »
I loooove signing birthday threads, especially for members I don't know or rarely talk to.  I think that happy birthday threads are a great way for board members to talk to new people.  But, there are some days where no member has a birthday, or members don't specify a birthday in their profiles.

I think we should start a new thing called Happy Days (or maybe even Nessa Days since we are a Vanessa board).  Each day a different NH.com member will get a happy day, and members can sign the thread with a little happy day message.

We could hold a contest for board members to come up with Happy day icons and signatures and stuff too, since everyone has been really creative lately with the forum logos.

Let me know what you guys think.  I'd be glad to organize it myself, or if mods want to get in on it too that's awesome.

*Annoints self devils advocate*

I dunno... don't we do enough already?  All these things I have to do now...

Maybe it's the Republican (even though I'm a demo) in me coming out saying that I'm in favor of small government.

All these new promotions, and boards, and blah blah blah.  We've gotten away from the whole Vanessa Carlton theme (and that's as much fault of mine than it is anyone elses).

*gets off throne*

Now let the Todd bashing begin!!!

It's ok, someone had to do the dirty work!  I didn't say "only post good stuff," I said "let me know what you think" and you did, which is fine!

I see your point.  It just seemed to me that lately everyone has been on edge.  I don't know if it's the stress from the holidays, finals, school, work, not to mention the documentary contest.  But I just thought that maybe it would be something nice to do, and recognize some of the members who don't come very often.  *shrug*

It's right around Christmas so everybody's stressing about parents.  Being with your family at the holidays sucks.  And then for most of us, finals are here.

My own opinion.... I'd say no.
we already have a policy against appreciation threds (oldskool oboard thing, see the rules), Birthday threads are the big exception, only comes around once a year.
And we're getting enough members where its RARE we dont have a day where someone doesnt have a birthday listed.
And I'm not just gonna kiss someone's ass just cause of some "Happy Day".

I am aware of the policy against appreciation threads.  I suppose I didn't make it clear that these would be random, and not made just because I'm friends with someone, like on the O-board.  Honestly the thought never corssed my mind, probably since I'm so used to seeing birthday threads and leniency with some rules by mods, but i'm not asking for special treatment either.  I honestly just thought it would be nice.  But that's just me.  And as far as kissing ass goes, it's the same with any other thread- if you don't want to sign it, then just don't sign it.
