OMG! reading all this is so weird!

In New Zealand...we start 'primary school' at 5, that's for 8 years... then it's on to 'intermediate school' for 2 years and then to high school for 4/5 years. I'm 16 and just about ready to start my last year of school *can't wait*

Our school year goes from end of Jan (Jan 27th we start this year) and goes in 10 week slots with 2 weeks in between every 10, if you get what I mean...so by the time our summer break comes around it's usually early november to mid december depending on whether you are a senior and have end of year exams or whether you're just a plain ol' junior  :)

We also have MUCH different course choices, last year I took Math, English, Home Economics (cooking), Geography, Music and Science (last year Math, English and Science we compulsory) and this year I'm taking Math, English, Catering and hospitality, Music, Child care and Computer applications. (only English is compulsory this year)

so...I could go on to do another year of school ('7th form') but I decided not to, many people don't do it because it's just a year to get all your stuff for Uni...and if you don't want to go to Uni because you have other plans or other education things (courses etc.) planned out then 7th form is just a waste of a year.

Even if you go to 6th or 7th form (legally you can drop out as soon as you turn 16) we still don't have a graduation ceremony. All it is is you get your exam results back after christmas and that's that. If you want to get together a group of friends and go out and party then that's your choice but...otherwise, no fancy graduation things here. But for 5th, 6th and 7th form (at my school) you get to go to the 'ball' (dance) if you like....

same as holly, kindergarten.

I started school on Sept. 3rd, and i think Gina started on the 4th. I don't know about Gina, but i'm not in school until the 26th. We have state wide tests you have to take for certain courses, called Regents. My school gets one week off for Regents, so technically school ends for me around the 16th of June. But that's only for the highschool, all of the other schools are until the 26th.

We started August 21st... for the seniors our last real day of school is May 16th, then we have senior exams from the 19th-21st, then we come back to school on the 22nd, but we don't really do anything, just come back for the Farewell Mass. Then we do senior service for a week where we do things like babysit kids at court houses, or do habitat for humanity. Then we get the next week off, have baccalaureate on June 5th, graduation on June 6th, and then we're done!!  :D
The freshman, sophmores and juniors have to be in school till June 9th tho.

Regents? They sound like our finals! are they the same thing? Just big tests you take covering everything you were taught that semester?
I have finals in 8 days! Physics and Forensic Science on the 20th; Pre-Cal, English, and Film Studies on the 21st; and economics and religion on the 22nd... not looking forward to them at all!! I'm mostly scared for Pre-Cal!

Theyre state tests though, like you have to pass them to graduate (atleast with a regents diploma) which is what like all colleges in NYS look for.

ermm they're kind of the same. But they aren't made by the teacher, they're made by the people at the Regents board....or something like that :-P

right. Colleges in NY generally don't care what grade you get on them, just as long as you pass.

they're cool depending on which subject you're taking them in. I have to take the chemistry one, which i think only 40% of people in my school have passed on their first try, which sucks becuase if i don't pass on the first try i don't graduate. But ones like the English and Earth Science ones are eeeaaaassy
