are they? I was under the impression that they were different..... :?

I think DSL runs through your phone line while cable internet is through the cable.

no dial up runs through your phone line. DSL and Cable run through an opticfibre cable.

Nope.  DSL goes through the phone line . . .Cable goes through the cable - go figure.  Cable is generally faster, but both vary with traffic.

There are several factors you need to consider when chosing between the two. Cable is usually faster for the money, however that varies depending upon your location and your provider. DSL speeds generally depend on how much you wanna pay and how far away you are from the nearest DSLAM. You can ask Katia all about that. DSL usually doesn't have restrictions on servers and such.

If you don't know the difference, go for whatever is the cheapest. I'm gonna wanna go with DSL for the less restrictive usage policy (I'm moving off cable soon). But. I also get 3 mbit down right now, which is making my DSL using friends drool.

Thank you for the help. Right now I have cable and it's soooooo fast. I love it...it's just that that combined with the cable bill is like 90 dollars a month. It's not like we are hurting for money but it's a lot.

the DSL with the phone service thing is like 35ish dollars a month but I don't want to lose speed because I'm an internet junkie and have gotten spoiled with having it "always on" and the lightening downloads...:S

Good summary.

IF you live in a fairly remote area, cable is usually best because you don't have the restrictings on distance from the exchange and you won't lose as much bandwith to others in the area with cable.

My cable modem company doesn't stop me from running servers, but they do have an upload bandwith control.  So my up speed is slow-ish.  But my down is still smokin.

I have SBC Yahoo! DSL, I didn't like the service at first but when I kept calling and telling them that I was going to cancel the service because I wasn't getting what I was paying for, they started to fix things, free of charge!!! lol

So now I love my DSL mucho  ;)

My cousins have Cable and its very slooooowwwwwwww....I wouldn't get it, we get a speed stream to make it go really fast and it comes with lots of features.

:D

DSL is way better, than Cable. Hands down, no contest, give it up.
