extreme rides
« on: March 31, 2004, 08:03:03 am »
Yesterday we went to Six Flags Magic Mountain and it was my first time riding extreme roller coasters and I had a kick ass time!!! =)
I’ll write about the ones I went on that are supposedly the most extreme

Deja Vu - This ride was the most intense one! It’s a suspended roller coaster and your feet dangle. While waiting in line we saw the roller coaster go by and it was a total blur it was so fast! First, they pull you up a about 90 degree tower backwards. So you’re looking down, feet and hands dangling and you don’t totally feel secure (even though you are, of course). Then they drop you forward like a free fall and you go up and around loops and stuff, then they bring you up another  about 90 degree tower, this time forwards so you’re laying in your seat not being able to see where they will drop you and you do the whole thing over again, this time backwards. Wow… it was so fast I couldn’t see anything even though my eyes were open. It took my friend and I 30 mins to recover and catch our breath, haha (but maybe it was partly because of the hill we were climbing afterwards. But that was the only ride of the day that literally took my breath away.

X- This ride was the most amazing ride I have ever ridden in my entire life! It wasn’t as intense as déjà vu, but it definitely was more extreme. This one is cool because the seats stick out from the side of the ride, and the seats are able to rotate 390 degrees. They take you up a big drop while your facing backwards, so you don’t completely know when the drop is coming. You start of the drop (another almost 90 degree one again) backwards, but while speeding down they flip your seat so you’re going down the drop head first. The rest of the ride continues of high speed twists and turns (I don’t remember if there was a loop) while the seat changes direction from forward to backwards, to right side up to upside down. It gave me the feeling like I was flying and tumbling through the air!! AMAZING! MY FAVORITE RIDE EVER!!!

I also went on Goliath which was one of 2002’s top 3 most extreme steel coasters. It was the first one we went on of the day. It was the tallest coaster in the park and was insanely fast!! The freakiest part was this corkscrew where there was SO much pressure on you that most people black out for a second (I don’t think I did though). Freefall was another one we went on which was freaky. Your strapped in to the back of a cart which 4 people can ride at a time. Then they take you up this elevator shaft, push you out at the top (where there are tracks) drop you feet first 90 degrees and make a sharp change to go flat on your back at the bottom. Then they flip you up again as you go down below the drop. Short, but crazy ride! Riddlers Revenge  was awesome. It wasn’t extreme at all, but just fun! It’s a stand up roller coaster that takes you through loops and corkscrews. Ninja was not extreme either. It was a suspended roller coaster that took you through the trees and over and under the neighboring water ride.  We also went on the water rides Splash Down (barely got wet), Log Jammer (got wetter, but not much), and River Rapids, mine as well jump in a pool, cause there’s a good chance, depending on your seat, that you will get soaked (but it’s A LOT of fun!). Batman, Superman and Cyclops were all closed which sucked. And we didn’t ride Scream or Viper due to not enough time (but actually we didn’t want to ride viper cause it jerks your head around a lot).
If you’re ever in So Cal, you have to go to Magic Mountain!! It is SO MUCH FUN!!

I got sick just reading your description of Deja Vu!!!  :?

you need to come to So Cal and go to this park then! you'd be in heaven!!  :D

ooo... i found better descriptions of the rides i was talking about on the six flags website!  :)

Deja Vu: "Déjà Vu combines state-of-the-art thrill ride technology with a brand new twist - riders fly forwards and backwards over twisting, looping inverted steel track. Strapped into sleek ski-lift style chairs suspended from the track above, Déjà Vu sends riders dangling face-down out of the station and up the first striking blue tower to then drop into a complete vertical 20-story free-fall a 102-foot-tall vertical loop, followed by an enormous 110-foot-tall butterfly turn! All this, right before rocketing up the second 200-foot-tall tower - only this time riders are on their backs with nothing but the sky above. The heart-pounding rush accelerates as the entire thrill is experienced again, only this time backwards! It's Déjà Vu! "

X-"Cutting edge, one-of-a-kind roller coaster designed to break all the rules! X is the world's first and only 4th dimensional thrill. Unlike traditional coasters where trains only parallel the track, X is pushed to the XTREME. For the first time ever, riders race in prototype vehicles that can now spin independently 360-degrees forwards or backwards on a separate axis -- creating an unprecedented "don't know what to expect next" sensation. Perched on the EDGE of a massive 20-foot wide wing-shaped vehicle, riders plummet 200 feet to the ground - head-first face down -- and race at 76 miles-per-hour spinning head-over-heels and performing forward and backward acrobatics through the massive 3,600-foot twisting steel maze."

Goliath: "Towering 255-feet above earth, the massive steel superstructure has one of the world's tallest drops and at speeds of 85 miles-per-hour, it is one of the fastest roller coasters of modern day. Combining traditional coaster thrills with a few new devilish twists, GOLIATH sends riders on a 3-minute "non-stop" high speed adventure over 4,500 feet of steel track with daring "butterflies-in-your-stomach" plunges, huge sweeping spirals, zero-gravity "floating" hills and drops, and the 120-foot-long tunnel shrouded in total darkness for the thrill of a lifetime! "

Free Fall: "An unrestricted drop from the top of a 10-story tower, plunging at 55 miles-per-hour in just two seconds. "

Log Jammer: "A wet and wild trip through the mountain side in a hollowed-out log."

Ninja: "Sleek, black trains are suspended from a red track overhead. Trains swing freely from side-to-side a total of 180- degrees through high-speed spirals and sharp turns."

Revolution: "The first looping roller coaster ever built. This white steel track coaster is built into the Park's lush hillsides and features a fast and furious series of steep, daring dips and dives inspired by those experienced on old-fashioned wooden coasters. "

Roaring Rapids: "Western America's first man-made white water river."

Sandblasters: "Good, old-fashioned bumper cars."
(this one was fun, cause we were beating up on my physics teacher (who we love, so it was just for fun) and made him spin out a few times, haha)

Riddler's Revenge: "The world's tallest and fastest stand-up roller coaster...Can You STAND It?  Themed to the villain E. Nygma (a.k.a. The Riddler), one of Batman's more colorful villians. The adventure begins as guests sweep through a glaring green neon entrance, disguised as a question mark, into the confines of The Riddler's lime-green industrial laboratory filled with mysterious and chaotic experiments. Guests, having lost control of their minds, board the warped scientist's latest standing-room-only invention - The Riddler's Revenge. World's tallest and fastest stand-up roller coaster. The Riddler's Revenge combines standard roller coaster technology with a twist - riders stand, not sit, as they race at 65 mph head-over-heels six times over nearly one mile of twisting, looping, inverted steel track for nearly three out-of-control minutes. "

those were the ones i had time to go on... but there are sooo many more i want to ride!

dragster was down most of the time i was there - last year --- and the line was soooo long and it looked mega scary - but millenium force is the best ---- goliath is very good at magic mountain too - goliath was the record breaker before millenium force opened in sandusky --- both parks are the best in the country if not the world - they have the most record breaker coasters...cedar point has more but - magic mountain has superman, and that ride where the floor drops as you spin round and round....

also universal islands of adventure in orlando is GREAT - they have awesome rides too!!!

i love rollercoasters, but i havent been to that many parks... lol when i went to sandusky ohio, that was the farthest west i've ever been, haha.  and yeah, the dragster was down most of the summer i think last years!  we got like 3 day tickets or 4 i cant remember, and it was closed, closed, closed and on the last day it was open, it was like amazing.  i really wanted to get the picture, and be like, YEAH!  I was on it!  But some lady had her hand in front of my face in the pic, so it was kinna pointless to get it.

hmm... where else have i been... i like the great bear at hershey park... i seriously have ridden that like 100 times... no, more than 100 times.  I've only been to that park twice tho, I cant remember what day it was but there was like no line at all, and so we just kept going around and around and around and riding that thing like a million times.  but then some dipshit in the line threw a rock at my head o.0

well, one day i'll get out to cali tho and go ride those good rides you guys have mentioned.

our superman at magic mountain in So Cal is like this:
Superman the Escape
"Guests can live the legend of DC Comics' Superman, The World's Greatest Super Hero, as their experience on SUPERMAN: THE ESCAPE begins in Superman's Fortress of Solitude, a crystalline ice-cavern high atop the park's mountain ridge. Confronted by enemy forces who have stolen into the Fortress, guests escape through a special effects tunnel in 15-passenger vehicles before experiencing the thrill of a lifetime. State-of-the-art electromagnetic motors blast the aerodynamic vehicles out of the station, accelerating from 0-100 miles-per-hour in seven seconds before shooting straight up the 41 story tower. An unprecedented 6.5 seconds of weightlessness is experienced as riders rocket to the top, then slowly begin the terrifying backward descent. As the trains freefall straight down the skyscraper, they will once again reach the 100 miles-per-hour speed zone...before safely returning to earth. Spanning more than 900 feet across the theme park and looming 415 feet above the ground, the dual track coaster forms a gigantic "L" shaped superstructure dramatically changing Six Flags Magic Mountain's skyline. "

but unfortunately it was closed yesterday!

but we have these that meet your description:

SPIN OUT
As you spin, the floor drops out below you. (must be over 36" and under 75")

GRINDER GEARWORKS
The gears of this wild ride twirl you high into the air, plastered to the wall at a 45-degree angle.
