Vanessa Carlton is nervously awaiting the release of her second album - because she fears it will make or break her career.
The A Thousand Miles singer scored success when her debut album Be Not Nobody was released in 2002, but now that she's on the verge of unleashing Harmonium, Carlton is well aware of the pressure she's under to repeat or better her sales.
She says, "I've killed myself for this record! It's the most important record 'cause it's your second one so I think either I get to establish my place in music or I don't."
The album was recorded last winter at Star Wars writer, producer and director George Lucas' legendary Skywalker Ranch, and she is proud of the music she's created.
She continues, "I think the songs are more sophisticated. I think the lyrics are better."
There are 10 tracks on the album, which Vanessa helped produce, as did her boyfriend, Third Eye Blind star Stephen Jenkins.
She adds, "We gave it a couple of weeks to figure out if we were really gonna be able to work together. But he understands me really well and he's a great producer."
The first single from the album, which will be released on 19 October, is White Houses.
