Yeah, it has. But I still thought she sounded better on the demo tape :)

I love how she can now hit a C note without growling!

vanessa's vocals have improved tremendously!!! you get none of that growling and raw sound... it's so smooth and clean i'm surprised that she can hit such high notes now .. i'm loving "white houses" vanessa but i also love that rawness and fluctuations that vanessa had before.

Yeah, the first thing I noticed about Vanessa's voice, even in that little clip on TRL, was that it changed. I couldn't really say how. Then I realized that her voice sounds much clearer, and less nasal, although she has always had a gorgeous voice.

I agree that VC's vocal quality has improved a lot. But I wonder if this is b/c of studio tinkering or actual improvement, or a little of both.
I loved Vanessa's voice before and I like it now on "White Houses", but I am curious how she sounds live now.

I don't think that it's "studio tinkering" because 1. Vanessa has been taking voice lessons since at least after BnN. 2. I know studios can help people's sound a lot, but I don't think that getting rid of a nasal sound is something studio work can do.

Ok, that's great to hear.  I didn't realize she was getting vocal coaching.  I just thought her playing on the road improved her voice.  thanks for the info.

no the nasal thing doesn't disappear with studio work. just listen to britney spears
plus SJ isn't fond of using vocal compressors in 3eb's stuff, but i'm not sure if he'd use them in vanessa's.
