Explanation of some Harmonium Songs (from Chicago)

This is for anyone who doesn't read the posts in the Live Shows Forum. I was at the show in Chicago last night, and Vanessa explained what some of the new songs are about. We were wrong and right about some of them. Here:

The Wreckage - not about suicide, but wanting to kill people sometimes when she is on the road, and how easy it would be to do so.

She Floats - not about suicide or a girl on drugs; she wrote it about always thinking their are ghosts in her closet, and seeing demons and monsters in the dark. So it may be from the ghost's perspective, I think.

Annie -  IS about a 4-year-old girl she met, who is named Victoria, who had leukemia, and fortunately is still alive.

Half A Week Before the Winter - about vampires eating unicorns.

She told us Afterglow is her favorite from Harmonium. And she talked about how Morning Sting (which she played live for the first time) is about how raw emotions can feel to her in the morning.

About Half A Week Before the Winter Comes, I am serious. She really said that is what it was about. Vanessa joked, "People think some of my songs have really ambiguous metaphors..." She mentioned her obsession with vampires, but how they are mean, and unicorns should live forever. She said the song is kind of symbolic in that it happens all over the world, that good things die every day. She said it happens in the music industry.

Did she say why "morning sting" isn't on the album?

She just said, "It didn't make it." It seemed like she was going to explain why, but then just repeated herself, "It.. didn't make it."
