I think some of her old songs are her better ones. I like Ordinary Day better with the Divide and Conquer part, and Carnival, Superhero, and All I Ask are beautiful. It's actually kind of funny because I like some of her b-sides better than more recent stuff (Swindler and Morning Sting). When she played those two songs at the TLA concert I went to, I was so happy  :D
Concert Tickets: $15
CD to support opening band: $3
Being in the same room as 'Nessa: priceless

Listened to this today courtesy of the links for Rarities 01 put up by Brian(BWilli)

Next to Superhero this is my favourite pre-BNN track :D I love the arrangement
of the strings! Anyone here know if V had help with that, and if so from who  :?

Paul Buckmaster wrote the stings for "All I Ask".  The song was finished in L.A. in October of 2000. 8)

well if you want her rarities, then all you have to do is go to the Vanessa Carlton Chat Forum on her Official Website. and you'll have to go to AOL Search to find the 'Rinse' Version of 'Pretty Baby'.

Paul Buckmaster wrote the most amazing string section to All I Ask

No surprise she was as impressed as the rest of us; deserved to be on BNN :?

I love All I Ask. It's one of my favorite songs of hers. I think the Rinse version is ten times better than the demo one. I don't think she'll ever release it officially though. What do you guys think?

Who owns the rights to the recording (not the lyrics/music, but the recording itself)?  Let's just all go in as a group and buy "All I Ask", performed by Vanessa Carlton and produced by Peter Zizzo, from whatever label owns it.  Then we can release it and use the money to pay ourselves back and make NESSAholics.com the awesomely wonderful place we want it to be.

i preferably like the demo tape version
it's faster and more aggressive :)
the piano is amazing

the rinse version is also great, but it's so depressing

i hope that that song's on her next album. i didn't know who wrote the string section, though, until someone mentioned it. the song sounds a lot like 'The Promise', by Michael Nyman.

I think the vocals on the Rinse version are better though, and I like depressing songs! :D

I think one song that she has the best vocals in is probably Ordinary Day from Be not Nobody, and Where the Streets have No Name, she has great range in that song.... :) Not that this has anything to do with All I Ask.

And all the constellations, shine down on you and me...

lol. Yeah, she's really good in Ordinary Day. I really like her singing on "As I wake in bed". That part doesn't even sound like it's her singing, it sounds better. But I like her regular singing anyway.

Yeah, I mean she sounds good all the time, but I just really like her in Ordinary Day, she just had so much range, hats off for V...It's one of my favorite songs, and I think it is just so poetic, the words and the way she sings it.

And all the constellations, shine down on you and me...

i think her voice is the best in Prince, Rinse, and WTSHNN. but there was one part in the song, though that made me cringe. it was the part when she sang 'See, our love turns to rust', she tries to sound like Bono himself. but other than that, i think she has a wonderful tone to her voice, which sometimes sounds raspy.

I'm listening to her version of Wishin' and Hopin' right now, and I like her vocals on that a lot too.

Lol, it seems this thread has gotten really off course.
