Edit @ Kev - Atleast someone thought it would be worthwhile to EXPLAIN instead of pointing and giggling.  Thank you.

You're welcome. Plus, it makes me feel clever to masqueade pop trivia as knowledge.

Rosie made me listen to the british XM station.

She educated me on what Garage is.... and made me listen to some band called Pop.

I also head some song she loves by Athlete called Wires?

British rock is really depressing.

If that's the song from the Volkswagen Beetle advert (is it Rosie?). Then I like that one too. Or at least I did, until radio 1 started playing it perpetually.

If you can call it rock. Does it even have a guitar in it?

Yeah... most of it has guitars.  But little to no distortion.  Mostly clean, maybe a chorus and noisegate to clean it up a bit.

I mean... it's basically just The Cure over and over and over.

It's popular here too, but we atleast mix in some regular rock music between sad bastard songs.

I meant are there even any guitars in the athlete track. But yeah, I agree, it is The Cure over and over (which can never be a good thing ;-) sorry The Cure fans). I abandoned the radio a long time ago. Mainstream music is teh suck, as they say.

That said, it's probably not right to tar the entire genre based on what's on the radio. I'm sure there's still a decent British rock scene underneath it all. My rule of thumb is that, if it's popular, it isn't any good.

Anyway, rock was only ever meant to be a precursor to heavy metal. It became completely redundant once Sabbath and UFO formed ;-)

What's digital radio like? What kind of variety do you get across the spectrum of stations? Does anyone cater for narrow uncompromising tastes? All standard radio over here is a joke. You've got a portable digi-radio, right? Are they any good?

It's the greatest invention known to man.

There are 3 or 4 stations you'd love.

Boneyard xL, Squizz xL, Fungus xL atleast.

Hmmm... I never noticed that.  Why do those 3 have xL at the end?

Either way, those are the three heavy metal/hard rock stations.

I mostly listen to the classic rock and accoustic rock stations.  But they make a TON of money off the niche music markets.

Classical stations, talk radio, hispanic, christian, etc.  They have 3-4 of each type of station you could immagine.

What about reception on your portable? Ever an issue?

Yeah, reception is never a problem for me.  If you are outside you don't need the antena.  If it's in your car or home you need to be near a window.  BUt it's digital, so there is no fuzzy reception.  You either get it or you don't.  When you get it, the audio is perfect.

I listen to it non-stop now.  I don't even listen to CD's in the car much anymore.
