i honestly don't think my father was too happy when I first started dating my girlfriend. she's peruvian and he had always expected me to date a white girl.  he has learned to live with it.  like i said earlier, it's been 6+ years now.  he kind of has to deal with it.  She'll be his daughter-in-law someday i'm sure.

i think maybe they just have to get used to the idea of you dating someone of a different race.

I spent some time at home recently (small town in northern california) and the town has a pretty small non-white population.  My family has demonstrated that they are uncomfortable around non-white races -- i don't know if it is ignorance on their part or something worse.

My best friends are a black man, an african man, and a dominican man.  I see them as men, end of discussion.

I don't even consider "hey, they're of a different race" when i meet someone or date someone.
