very special relativityish (or just a song really)
« on: April 11, 2005, 09:24:56 am »
this is a song I wrote and it is called "Time dilation" which is a special relativistic effect. it sort of means that when someone is moving really fast and looks at a clock of someone who is standing still that clock ticks slower than his own clock which is moving with him. interesting, no?
I called my song like this because it's about the feeling that you're standing still while everyone else seems to be moving ahead. I would really appreciate it if you people would tell me what you think of it.
here goes, hope you like it:

Time Dilation

I've been standing on the corner of streets
I see everyone passing by
moving fast
I can hear them grow
but I, I can't keep up
it seems I'm going nowhere
something's weighing me down
something's weighing me down

this road always looked straight to me
but I've been going round in circles for times unknown
this road always looked straight to me
I think I've lost my way
can anybody tell me where to go
I won't be left behind

I've spent too much time in this place
decay's already setting in
all around
my world is ageing
and I, I don't belong
down here in this forsaken place
trying to find a way out
trying to find a way out

this road always looked straight to me
but I've been going round in circles for times unknown
this road always looked straight to me
I think I've lost my way
can anybody tell me where to go
I won't be left behind

quicksand is filling up the memories
that these people have left behind
they come and they go
they never make it last for me
so I stumble and fall
into empty space
there’s nothing to hang on to
there’s nothing here to gain
I am knee-deep in trouble

this road always looked straight to me
but I've been going round in circles for times unknown
this road always looked straight to me
I think I've lost my way
can anybody tell me where to go
I won't be left behind

repeat chorus

I've been standing on the corner of streets
I see everyone passing by
moving fast
I can hear them grow...
"If it all went away, nothing left to say, oh would you fight it or would you lay down."

I really like these lyrics a lot.  I have to say I am a big relative to some of it.  For a long while I have felt as though I haven't really been experiencing life and I've been letting things pass by me because I simply wasn't trying.  It kinda reminds me of Bonnie McKee's "Somebody" in a way.
"If only I could get into that corner of your head."
