She was born and raised in Birmingham. She records a lot of her material in America, in places like Atlanta, San Francisco, LA, etc, etc so that may be why.
But if you check out one of her interviews, she has a Birmingham accent. She currently lives in London.
Brit, Aussie, Kiwi, Irish and etc seem not to understand
The fact she recorded and spent most of her time in the USA.. It doesn't mean she's lost her british accent.... The truth is.. She sang with ame accent to be famous there where the sells are higher and be famous around the world..
My grandfather is from Portugal... he lives here in Brazil, about 30 years or more...... and until today, he never (NEVER) lost his portuguese accent, he learnt brazilian expressions, but never lost his accent..
Now Jamelia and Joss Stone, spent less than 2 or one year in the USA.. And come up with a Brilliant American accent, come on...
We all know that this is Marketing
It would be like.. hmm.. If Portugal was the big country, big everything like the USA... And if all the Brazilian singers had to sing with the portuguese accent... u see?
Natalie Imbruglia is a Australian singer that since her 14 years old, she lives in the UK
She gave an interview when she released her third album COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS
And she said EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING.. E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G
She said something like
" In my first record, I was influenced to be an "American".. I had to sing american music style, I had to learn their accent.. And I recorded some tracks twice a day, cos the accent wasn't enough to my producers "
And she said more things like... that if a non-american sings with ame accent, they'd be famous around the world, they'd sell more and etc..
But nowadays, Natalie sings with british accent, even when she speaks, it was her choice... to sing and speak British
That sort of excuses like " We change our accent by accident, we tend to change our accent out of the blue "... ah come on.....
And it's not that I'm an accent fanatic.... It's cos I CAN'T UNDERSTAND how a person sells himself easily... If I were a british or non-american singer.... I would be like Lily Allen, James Blunt.. The Libertines, Dido, Corinne Bailey Rae...
But if you guys think that's normal... ok..
But I totally disagree with the ABUSE OF POWER OF THE UNITED STATES...
