Eh, it's only so-so to my ears.
And man, what a cr*ppy midi version she's singing to!  8O

I dig. It is kind of nice she does her own thing with it, because if she were trying to sing like V I think most of the people who heart V would hate it, lol.

I really like what she did with it. I think it would probably sound better if they didn't use the exact piano portion from it and they gave it a more R&B vibe but I would buy it from her if she released it right now. She's got the genre down and she kind of reminds me of Joss Stone except with a more current style. If I owned a label I'd definitely sign her.

one of the responses from the ATM video:

Vannessa's version isnt even close to Esmee's. Too bad she doesnt have a record deal, she would easily outsell Ms. Carlton.

hahaha wow, sorry that made me laugh cuz I think Esmee's version is horrible. Love her other covers, hate this one though.

I think she overcomplicates the vocals. The simplicity of Vanessa's vocals in ATM are what give it that cartain "magic". The girl has a good voice but to me when singers sing in that style it sounds like they are trying too hard. I know some people really like that style but I don't; it grates on my ears!

I think Esmee is very good considering she is singing, not in a studio, but on a poor quality webcam.

I live in The Netherlands, have never heard of her (until I read this thread, of course.)
It's too bad she didn't try out for the Dutch X Factor.
They could really use her, the people that are in that show here now SUCK really hard.

Oh hey, I didn't know this was here. I heard her a few months ago looking for covers of "Only Hope" on google. She's good for her genre, but in some songs she has a little bit too much vibrato or shakyness.

I like her voice, but in my opinion she's too over the top which I hate. When they do that whiney moan crap.

her cover of a thousand miles was absolutely terrible/disgusting. She should stick to r&b songs.

I like JoJo better. :) No doubt she's got a decent voice but eh...she's not doing it for me.

I just want to sort of update this, even though it's a zombie topic but...

Quote
Los Angeles, CA … Internet phenomenon and singer/songwriter Esmee Denters is the first signing to Tennman Records.  “In completely unpredicted news to all YouTubers and bloggers, we are proud to announce Esmee Denters has signed to Tennman Records and she will be joining me on tour this summer.  Esmee is the real deal and I cannot wait for the world to hear her, but all of her fans on YouTube should not worry…we will keep you in the loop every step of the way,” announced today by Justin Timberlake, Chairman/CEO of the label.

“Words can't describe how amazing it is. I am so excited!  It is something I have always dreamed of doing.  I have to thank YouTube and its viewers for giving me the opportunity to show the world my voice.  I also have to thank Justin, one of the biggest artists in the world, for believing in me and making my dreams come true,” says Esmee Denters.

Ken Komisar, President of Tennman Records, adds "Esmee is a remarkable talent with a story that anyone with a dream can relate to - it is no wonder she has such an enthusiastic following already.  We will keep providing fans with a personal look into Esmee’s world throughout the entire creative process, as she continues to write songs for her debut album.”

Esmee Denters first began to gain awareness by posting cover performances of Beyonce, Alanis Morrisette and Alicia Keys on her YouTube page.  18 year-old Esmee Denters hails from Oosterbeek, Holland, where she has had 21 million views on her YouTube site since she posted her first performance less than 9 months ago.  In addition, to being on tour (see tour dates below) this summer, she is currently writing/recording on her debut album which is slated for release later this year.
