Okay, I have to be honest. I'm beginning to really drift away from any sort of excitement over a new album. I may just have missed it, but I haven't heard a word from/about her for a lonnggg time. Is there even going to be a new album?
I mean, seriously, Vanessa please, I'm worried. Yes, you've played at shows I've seen. But other than that... Where are you...?
-
She's recording. She did a bit in London at KT Tunstall's studio, actually. She had an idea about calling the album 'Tall Tales For Spring', also. She's nearly finished recording it, from what I hear.
-
we must have patience.
-
i am not patient. in january, she said later this year.
this year is nearly over.
-
I understand how you feel, but for me, I trust her too much to be impatient. I know whatever she comes out with,
whenever it comes out, will be great because she's Vanessa Carlton. I prefer she take her time rather than throw out
crap.
As far as communicating goes, she's busy making us new music to listen to, and I think that's enough
to be happy with. If she didn't care about the fans, she wouldn't be making the new album, you know?
(Don't worry, my optimism is disgusting me as well lol)
-
lollies
I am going to advise you guys to be impatient. Burn, burn for Nessa til your heart cannot take it, then sit back and enjoy it for what it is. Obsessive love for her art. When it comes it will be worth it. Hasn't it already?
-

That makes me happy.
-
If London and Fair Weather Friends are any indication of what the new album will be like, then it will be well worth the wait!
-
Def. looking forward too it.....
-
oh yes, just waiting for V!=D and i'm full support! ayee
-
I'm over waiting for her to message us because I've come to realise she isn't that kind of artist. She tried it for a few weeks and got bored. That's fine. At least she tried.
As for the music, I think she should at least put demos or clips of songs up to keep the fans going. She keeps everything under wraps. I guess she has a loyal team of people behind her, because you hear about artists' music leaking left, right and centre all the time and 'Heroes...' leaked just one week before its release, which was to be expected seeing as copies of the album were shipped to stores and online.
In an ideal world, it'd be great to have Vanessa on Twitter all the time and having new music leak, but that's not her...
Also - am I the only one who thinks she needs to switch her image up? At least do something with her hair every now & then. Hell, even tying it back would make a bit of difference.
-
i think the time before an album is released and when it leaks is solely based on demand..if theres a million people waiting to pick up your album the day it drops(especially if it's the younger generation) it's gonna leak weeks before..if there isn't such a strong demand it'll leak about a week before.....it's always that way....i think her image is fine.....but online/viral presense is almost MANDATORY for an artist who wants to make it on indie terms...i feel like she made a shit load of money with ATM and stopped caring a bit after that...the comfort of a song can change an artist....which isn't really a horrible thing but of course her fans want to know whats going on with her.... I'll always support her but her internet presense has always been soooo weak....she doesn't even have an official store. She also started to show dis-interest when she started mentioning film scores...which is great...but we'd also like to be updated on that stuff as well..it all comes down to her pregnant pauses...it just really irritates me when we hear from her when theres something to promote, rather than just to say "hello, im alive".
-
I'm sad that we've not heard more from her. I used to be a huge fan, which.. I suppose I still am, she's just not fresh in my mind. Most people are growing impatient, but maybe it will get better with the release of a new album. Hopefully someone still believes in her, and she can even produce and sell one.
It's unfortunate: she's beautiful and talented, but to most people, she's "Vanessa who?"
-
I'm growing quite impatient myself. I know that she had the concert in Epcot, but she got booted out from there. As far as I know, she didn't play any new songs. I would like some sort of news or a new song that we haven't heard to be played (and recorded). Unfortunately, she doesn't. I think she should before her fanbase crumbles anymore.
-
Patience is important with music. Good, quality music isn't really something that can be rushed. Some artists are better at putting out music every year or so, but V's track record is about every two and a half years. BnN was April 2002 (really May since it was April 30), Harmonium was November 2004, Heroes & Thieves was October 2007, so this new project--especially since it will most likely be an independent project--most likely won't surface until at least summer of 2010 based on V's track record.
-
I don't mind waiting until spring, and I hope this time she won't play as many new songs as she did the last time. When HaT was released it didn't have almost any new songs for us.
-
^^^ That's true. But I pray that London and Fair-Weather Friends make the cut to the album ;D And I even think Waltz could be an Intro, who knows? Vanessa likes to experiment new things, maybe she changes the 11 track system :P
-
I think she should do maybe 15-16 songs on the next album, a fine frenzy has done it twice and she's on a label so I see no reason why v can't without a label.

16 songs would be amazing! ;D One of my only complaints about V's albums is that they're too short. You put them to listen and in a second it's over >:(
Well, I'm really really impatient, too. I've been dreaming day and night about this new album and it is for sure the most awaited CD of 2010 for me. I'm not afraid of expecting too much because Vanessa never disappoints.
I'm hoping she'll update us soon with a new year's message, like she usually does.
-
I'm impatient because I want to know about the duct tape question. Enquirring minds want to know! This is a very important issue right up there with Homeland Security that can't wait another minute. ;)
We can defeat the terrorists.
:)
-
I think V will stick to 11 songs per record. haha.
-
I have this fantasy about Vanessa having a Jason Mraz kind of comeback, even if it’s just with one song; of course she needs a label to do it. I think all of her albums have at least one song with the potential to become a big radio hit, but for some reason they are not released as singles; like “Home”, if they had recorded it with a big orchestra sound (like BNN) and released it as a single with an appropriate promotion, it could have been huge; it is a beautiful song with an universal meaning that anyone who has ever been in love (or has loved anyone so deeply) can relate to. But they had to go with “Nolita Fairytale”, because, you know, a lot of people can relate to things like loosing a record deal, being Stevie Nicks’ BFF and eating at Ruby’s. I just hope that she can find a label for this new album and that they do things right this time (particularly about singles choices and promotion), she doesn’t need to be known as the girl of the traveling piano for ever.
-
A Jason Mraz style comeback would be nice, except than everyone would forget ATM, which would be a pity. Even though that would be awkward, it also would not necessarily be a bad thing. I don't know. It's mixed bag.

Since you mentioned wrong choice of singles and not choosing songs with potential, in my opinion the biggest waste was "Private Radio" not having a video and not being released in the rest of the world. It has such a huge potential!
-
Both "Who's To Say" and "Private Radio" (particularly the latter) would have done pretty well as singles had they been released & promoted properley.
Her label should have released "Private Radio" straight after "White Houses" and promoted the hell out of it. We'd have seen a much different situation with 'Harmonium', I believe. I mean, the critics loved it & said it shoulda been a single, radio would have eaten it up and we would have got to see more Vanessa.
Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Part of me is glad of what happened anyway...I kinda like Vanessa being underrated and less known to the masses.
-
Yeah, "Private Radio" and "Who's to Say" are also good examples of that; but I do understand why they chose "White Houses" as a single. What bothered me was how easily A&M gave up on her, it was like "Oh, her single failed in the charts? Stop all the efforts and promotion for the album! And cancel her record deal!". A couple of years ago someone posted a magazine scan where Vanessa said that she wanted "Who's to Say" to become something like a gay anthem, with a gay video and that; that would have been nice too. :-[
-
Yeah, everyone that I play private radio to loves it. Another one is hands on me, I dunno why NF was the lead single, I thought HOM would've done so much better.
-

I kinda think NF had to be the lead, because it was like the representation of freedom for her, of a new phase.
But I don't understand HOM not doing so well... The song has "hit" written all over it.
-
I agree...I think HOM would have done better for the album if it was the first single....NF is just NOT relatible...most people don't even know what 'nolita' is....I only knew because of Vanessa.
-
"Hands On Me" bombed because her label couldn't be bothered to promote it. The song itself is great, it just wasn't promoted at all. TV didn't play the video, radio didn't play the song and Vanessa didn't do any TV appearances.
I think the only time she played it on TV during the 'Heroes & Thieves' era was on that show where her piano broke during "Nolita Fairytale".
-
People always are so quick to blame the label......It's a 50/50 road if you ask me..there is no way Vanessa will fit into the indie world if she shows the same kind of work ethic she has the past 4 years or so.....when your indie, you gotta work THAT MUCH harder. I'd feel sorry for her if I felt like she tried..but I don't...with the way A&M handled Harmonium I thought she'd learn something and make wiser decisions...but she didn't. She signed too the next label that gave a shit and let them do the same thing. The Inc/Universal did more for her than A&M did with Harmonium. Hands down.
ps: that performance she did on espn(i think) from 2006 of HOM was amazing..she looked great.

I agree with all that. Btw, is this the performance you mentioned?

Her label HAVE to share the majority of blame for the failure of 'Heroes & Thieves'. There was hardly any real promotion for that damn album. Sure, they threw her a few dollars to shoot two videos, had Irv's kid shoot them pratting about in Nolita, had her perform on a few shows, etc...but that is most certainly not near enough promo for an artist like Vanessa.
She's lazy and doesn't seem to care about sales...which is admirable on one hand but on the other, major labels have expectations. But like Vanessa once said, you CANNOT promote your record in India without the backing of a label.
Remember when Irv said he'd have her tour the world, promote the hell out of her, etc? He didn't deliver any of that, IMO. That's why I hold most of the blame with him.
Now here's the thing - her music isn't what's in the charts so she should not be chasing the major deals.
-
I agree with the last sentence...I just wish she would have went indie after A&M dropped her. But shes gonna need to step it up a notch!
-
The thing with Irv though is his entire comeback project with Universal Records failed, it wasn't just V. Ja Rule hasn't sold anything since Irv has been back. Lloyd left The Inc. You name it, it has failed.
Irv was essentially getting his money and push from Universal and when the money dried up for that, the money dried up for V and everyone else. It is business. Only those people know how much or how hard they were trying to push V's stuff.
In fact, Irv stated in May he was leaving Universal as he didn't feel the energy that he needed from them. Maybe having V tour the world and blow her up again like he blew up Ja Rule was Irv's dream to revive his own career, but it didn't work. I had reserved expectations for what Irv might be able to do for V, and even my expectations overshot what happened. I wouldn't place all of the blame on Irv though.
The thing with V's music is ever since the singer-songwriter in the mainstream peaked in 2002-2003 it has been all down hill from there with top 40. Now top 40 is rap music plus your popperized version of a Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood song and every once in a while some Kelly Clarkson. It is what it is.
The best thing V can do if she ever wanted to make it back big is continue to make good music and push the music she believes in. There are a lot of great artists out there who get no radio play but probably make a decent living. That said, it is up to them to be out there 150+ nights a year playing across the globe to make a living and maybe get that big break someday. Based on how much bank V probably made on ATM if she has invested her money right she doesn't have to do that if she doesn't want to. If that is her choice I'm fine with that as long as she continues to make good music or do whatever makes her happy.
-
I think Irv dropped he ball for sure, there was NO promotion for H&T. And I know of plenty of indie artists who are just out there for the fun of it and they are in my opinion, successful. And they don't promote too much either. What is important, above all is the quality of music, that it continues to get better, and I think V has done that. I hope that the album is kept very bare bones, like just her piano and Skye Steele on London, Fair Weather Friends, Waltz, and if she plays guitar it not being over-produced. I think the only thing about H&T that disappointed me was too much production, not enough orchestration, a departure from the classical roots that are SO classically V.
-
Maybe its because people don't like to listen to her kinda music. I mean come on, most of what she sings is not all that to begin with. i'm sure when people think vanessa carlton, they think a thousand miles.

And that is why we are all here posting on a forum about her. And why people enjoy and listen to music very similar to hers all the time.
Thank you peanut galllery.
-
why don't YOU just ignore me..you never have anything nice to say anyway snoopy.. ;D
-
How about just stop posting stupid stuff? We all know you don't like Vanessa Carlton. Which is cool, it's just that you are an antagonist.
And I do have nice things to say. I've even said nice things to you before, remember? I bet you don't.

Hi Si. Nice to see you again. :)

VanessaCarlton.com main forums are pathedic....I'm sorry, she's not completely innocent for that one. With that said, I want to thank whoever keeps this site up and running...I imagine it costs $$!! Even if Vanessa doesn't show thanks, WE appreciate it.

Great, so instead of wasting our time as we try to sift through your petty childish battles, please try taking them elsewhere (may I suggest google talk? (http://www.google.com/talk/)).
Thanks <3
-
I'm just trying to keep everyone's mood up. It's not easy. I doubt I get much credit for it.
-
Oh please do stop whining. ; ; It's a bit off-topic here anyhow. Anyhow, I hope it comes out soon, I'm finally getting tired of listening to HaT on repeat. xD

Me too, I need new material :(

Indeed they are! I logged onto my account and there were spam messages in my pm box. I guess I am warning whoever has an account there to not click on them because they will most likely cause your dandy computer to get a VIRUS. That wouldn't be so good....
I am getting impatient as well. Oh well. Just gives me more time to practice my piano skills so when the new album comes out I may learn the new songs. =]
