Completely Off-Topic / protect marriage?

The United States needs to be a bit more egalitarian. We're so behind.

Honestly, though, I could care less whether the right of homosexual marriage is granted; it's more important to get the rights rather than the title, but most people don't seem to understand that.

That, and I have very cynical views about <i>all</i> state-sanctioned marriage.

Dude, it's not like we know one way or the other. There's not any point in speculating - it just is what it is. And if she doesn't record another album for five years, then she doesn't record an album for another five years. But it's seriously creepy when fans think they can just decide for themselves that "oh, her last album came out a year ago and there hasn't been much press on it, so she must be terribly depressed." What the hell. How would you know, again?

Adding to what Will mentioned about the Bible being slightly outdated... well, I can say with relative certainty two things: first, the Bible was written in a time in homosexuality was considered a (more) dangerous practice due to its connotations of disease. The same goes for various other ridiculous-sounding things in the Bible, such as the instruction not to eat shellfish or mollusks. These things were frowned upon because they were not well known and they were indeed dangerous. It's safe to assume that people of this time were frightened of things of the sort because, say, when they were involved with them, they would come down with diseases they did not recognize or know of. One would imagine that if they had no idea why they got this disease, they would attempt to blame it on the act itself, saying that God thought the act was detestable.

Second, I would like to point out again that the Bible was not written by God himself, and that it has been warped and torn to pieces (in both a figurative and literal sense) since it was introduced. I think it would be foolish to take everything it says as law when it could have been so easily warped by special interests and things of that sort across the ages.

Well, me, I'm an atheist, and gay, and I have only read select portions of the Bible. So I'm biased. But, that's my two cents, so whatever. Hope it helped some.

I don't support "Gay Rights," I don't think there should be such thing. By that, I'm not saying I hate homosexuality, what I do hate is that society still separates people just for what they like, how they look, or how they feel.

To me, saying "I'm/you're/he's/she's gay" is labeling people, and not giving them credit for anything else they have to offer, like being gay is everything they are.

Is it really necessary to create laws for every cultural group? What kind of society are we? Limitating ourselves to say You're gay, black, white, asian, hispanic, punk, goth, hippie, among other things. WE'RE ONLY HUMAN. PERIOD. DEAL WITH IT.

There should be a certain amount of respect between everyone. Hating on someone just because they like something different than what you like is simply a demonstration of insecurity and most of all, ignorance.

So... do I support gay rights? Nope.
Do I support human rights and believe in equality? Absolutely.

You have an absolutely wonderful and thoughtful point. Very inspiring to see that there are people left in this world who think in that way.

No, I have not put in any effort other than supporting her career by purchasing her albums and going to her performances. And my point in the first place was that a mainstream career might not be want Vanessa or her fanbase wants. And yes - the standards for independent sales are much lower than those that a major-label artist might have. 100,000 copies (which is what Harmonium sold, I believe), is an exemplary and respected sale count in the independent music business.
