I just started reading the books last week. I am so far on book 5 - i just started it. I was wondering which book was your favorite.
I am really enjoying them...
please no spoilers here since i haven't read them all yet.

I'm torn between 4 and 7... I chose four first because I just loved all the new creatures and action in it but 7 was really good too, a lot darker themed and it's immediately thrown to action.  :)

I dont like the movies either. I tried watching the first one, couldnt even finish it.

She's a bad author who tells cute stories with no depth and no creativity.

Do. Not. Understand.

Now the movies, on the other hand, are cute summer fantasy stories.  Very enjoyable.  But the books.... if you aren't 12, I can show you 100 books that are infinitly better in the same genre.  And if you want to read kids books that badly, I can even one-up you there.

I guess I should just be happy that people are READING.

Grakky, have you read the 5th, 6th, or 7th books? The first two could pass as children's books, but I would have a hard time giving books 5, 6, or 7 to a 7 or 8 year-old.

Just me. I've liked the books since I was 11 or so.

If these are children's books, then these are the best children's books ever written... perhaps that is why they are so popular.  Why is it not okay for an adult to enjoy an children's story? Certainly Aesop's fables have plenty of value for anybody. Clearly you are virtually alone with your opinion, considering the massive success of these novels, or stories, as you call them. As an author, I think she is tremendously creative, having created a virtually flawless fantasy world that so many people can dive into. Her writing style is simple, but that does not mean she is a horrible writer. I suggest you read a couple chapters into book 7... i noticed a tremendous difference in her writing there -- much more mature.  Come to think of it, I think her style fits the books' purposes just fine.

ok so andrew i love you but my dad is 62 and he was the first one to start reading these books in my family about 8 years befor i started - if they are kids books they must be the most successful crossover of markets of all time

book 5 is the hardest to read its taken me 3 days to get to page 300... anyone else feel these way?

Voted for number 4... that one was really neat and not at all that serious...It was kinda lighter toned and gradually came to a serious ending, which was more of a beginning...( you know what I mean...) but what i think amazes me is the amount of mystery that she manages to underly very discreetly in this "kids" book... I mean tho it is kinda crappy that she uses D'dore as a scape goat(i know...too exagerated a term...) to kinda explain why certain things were happening at the end of almost(I'm not giving anything away...;)...) every book... But I've definitely enjoyed the mystery ,the adventure and of course the unpredictability of this world which as someone said is flawless...

Oh and yes steph... the fifth book took me very long to complete... and it was a very very dark book... Grimauld place just gives you the creeps...
